PrepLounge's columns are about access to people and written material; the Road to Offer column is about graded practice. A partner tells you how you came across and a grader tells you whether the answer held up, and many candidates use both.

Arranging live case practice is the single biggest logistical obstacle in a realistic prep timeline, and the size of the member base is what solves it. A candidate in Singapore preparing for a European process can find a partner. A candidate practising at unusual hours can find a partner. What do 579,000 members actually get you?

Availability, which is the hardest thing to buy, and nothing else about quality.

A marketplace this size means you can find a partner at almost any hour, in almost any timezone, at short notice. That solves the single biggest logistical failure in case prep, which is not a lack of willingness but a lack of anyone free when you are.

What the number does not buy:

• A vetted partner. The person opposite might be three days into their prep or three months. The board does not sort for it.
• Attendance. No-shows happen in any free marketplace, and they cost you the slot as well as the rep.
• Calibration. Your partner is usually learning the same skill at the same time and working from the same written solution, so structure feedback reflects their level as much as yours.

The right way to use it follows from that. Book more meetings than you think you need to absorb no-shows. Run half your sessions as interviewer, because watching someone flounder in a structure teaches you more about what interviewers notice than being cased does. And get your calibration from something that knows what a passing answer looks like, then bring that into the meeting.

How many PrepLounge meetings do you actually need?

More than the free cap for most candidates who find live practice useful, and the count matters less than what each meeting is for.

Peer meetings build delivery, pacing and the ability to keep talking while someone waits, and those skills tend to improve quickly with reps. Whether your structure fits the client's decision is a separate question, and it is easier to answer with a coach, the written solution or a rubric than with a partner at your own stage.

A workable shape for a normal recruiting timeline:

• The free meetings first. Split them evenly between interviewee and interviewer. Decide whether live practice moves you before paying anything.
• Then Premium, if it does. Rotate partners deliberately rather than rebooking whoever was pleasant, and push for at least a few who are further along than you.
• Throughout. Check your structure against something that knows what a passing answer looks like: a coach, the case solution or a graded rep.

How do you get the most out of PrepLounge?

Three things separate candidates who get value from the meeting board from candidates who log a lot of meetings.

Vet and rotate partners. The board does not sort for quality, so you have to. Read the profile, check how far along they are, and deliberately rotate rather than settling into a comfortable pair. Two people practising only with each other converge on each other's blind spots.

Take the interviewer seat as often as the candidate seat. It is the most underrated thing on this platform. Watching someone else flounder mid-structure teaches you what interviewers actually notice, faster than being cased does, and it costs you nothing extra.

Feedback comes from people, not from grading your answer

Your partner is a candidate, learning the same skills and working from the same written solution. They can tell you that you sounded nervous or that you took too long on the math. Whether your issue tree was MECE, pointed at the client's actual decision, or whether your synthesis led with the answer is easier to judge with a coach or a rubric. Variable partner quality and no-shows

An open marketplace means the person on the other end might be excellent, might be three days into their prep, or might not turn up, which is the recurring problem our practice partner guide is written around. Over twenty meetings that averages out. Over your first three it can be demoralising.

Scheduling overhead

Every rep costs a booking, a confirmation, and a calendar slot. On a compressed timeline that overhead directly limits how many cases you actually complete, which is why most candidates end up supplementing peer practice with something they can run alone at midnight.
