Elixirr Assessment Centre Guide: Group Case and Presentation (2026)
Prepare for the Elixirr assessment centre: group case studies, individual presentation, first-stage interview, worked exercise, fit, and application advice.
On this page
Elixirr's current early-careers process uses a short first-stage interview, an assessment centre with group activities, case studies, and an individual presentation, then two final interviews. Prepare for the full sequence, not for one assumed MBB-style live case.
What is the current Elixirr application process?
The published sequence below comes from Elixirr's early-careers page, checked 20 August 2026. Confirm role-specific details in your invitation.
An older Elixirr first-person internship account describes two group cases and a presentation. That is useful firm-published context, not a guarantee for the next graduate cycle.
What does the assessment centre test?
The format lets assessors see how you work as well as what you conclude.
- Group contribution: share useful analysis and help the team reach a decision. The group case interview guide gives a role-by-role playbook for doing this without taking over.
- Commercial judgement: choose the issues that matter to a client.
- Evidence use: connect each claim to the brief or calculation.
- Presentation: lead with the answer, then support it with a small number of points. Use the case synthesis guide to practise that order.
- Adaptability: respond to new information without defending a weak first view.

How should you manage the assessment-centre day?
Elixirr's current early-careers page confirms group activities, case studies, and an individual presentation, but it does not publish a fixed timetable or scoring rubric. Use a repeatable routine without assuming the exact prompt.
At the start of a group exercise, restate the client decision in one sentence. Agree on two to four criteria and reserve time for a recommendation. During the discussion, keep facts, assumptions, and opinions separate. If another candidate has useful evidence, build it into the answer and name the contribution. If the team is repeating itself, summarise the agreement and ask which unresolved point could change the choice.
For an individual presentation, spend the first part of preparation choosing the answer, not decorating slides. Build a short story: situation, decision, evidence, risk, next step. Check every number and put units on the page. Leave enough time to rehearse the first and last sentence. Those are the points where uncertainty is most visible.
Elixirr also says the day gives candidates opportunities to meet employees. Prepare two questions that help you test the role, such as how junior team members contribute to client work or how staffing differs across practices. Do not turn informal conversations into another speech about yourself.
Build a flexible timeline, not a guessed timetable
Elixirr does not publish a minute-by-minute schedule. Use checkpoints that work at any duration:
This is a preparation model, not an Elixirr timetable. If the invitation gives exact timings, convert the percentages into minutes before the day.
Worked Elixirr group case: choose a bank pilot
This is an original Road to Offer exercise, not a reported Elixirr interview prompt.
Prompt: A UK retail bank can pilot one service for 100,000 customers: an AI budgeting coach or a redesigned fraud-alert journey. The budgeting coach could improve engagement by 8 percentage points and costs £900,000. The fraud journey could reduce annual fraud losses by £1.4m and costs £600,000. The bank's priority is measurable value within one year, but it also wants a platform for future digital growth.
A useful group structure:
- Agree on the decision criteria: one-year value, delivery risk, customer trust, and future strategic option value.
- Quantify what is comparable. The fraud option has a stated £1.4 million gross first-year benefit and an £800,000 net first-year benefit after the £600,000 pilot cost, before implementation risk or any unspecified operating costs. The budgeting option has an engagement effect but no revenue value, so the group needs more evidence.
- Name the uncertainty. Ask how engagement converts to retention or product uptake and whether either option creates regulatory or data risk.
- Choose a provisional answer. Recommend the fraud pilot for the one-year objective, while keeping the budgeting coach as a second pilot if its engagement uplift can be valued.
How to contribute: Offer the criteria, calculate the fraud benefit, then invite another candidate to test customer and implementation risks. Do not turn the exercise into a solo speech.
Debrief the bank example
The fraud pilot wins only against the stated one-year measurable-value objective. It is not proven to be the better long-term digital platform. A strong debrief separates those conclusions. It also notices that £1.4 million is the gross benefit, while £800,000 is the net first-year benefit after the pilot cost and before delivery risk or any unspecified operating costs.
The next useful evidence is the fraud journey's expected reduction range, implementation cost by phase, false-positive rate, and effect on complaints. For the budgeting coach, ask how the eight-point engagement lift changes retention, balances, or product use. If that link is valuable enough, the ranking could reverse.
In a group assessment, the quality signal is not “I found the winner”. It is “I made the decision criteria explicit, quantified what the brief supports, exposed the missing evidence, and helped the team choose a controlled next step”.
How should you deliver the individual presentation?
Use a simple opening: recommendation, two reasons, key risk, next step. For the bank prompt:
“Pilot the fraud-alert journey. It offers a measurable first-year benefit and better matches the stated objective. The main risk is delivery or customer friction, so test it with a controlled customer group and track fraud loss, false positives, and complaints. In parallel, value the budgeting coach's engagement uplift before funding it.”
Elixirr's official page confirms an individual presentation but does not publish a fixed duration. Use the template below if your invitation gives you five minutes. Otherwise, scale the sections to the time stated in your invitation. For longer preparation windows or written exhibits, use the written case and presentation playbook.
Do not fill five minutes because the slot exists. A four-minute answer with a clean close is stronger than five minutes of repetition, unless the invitation requires a fixed duration.

How should you prepare in two weeks?
How should you approach fit and the application?
The first-stage interview is short. Answer the question first, then give one specific example. Prepare why Elixirr, why the role, a team contribution, a difficult stakeholder, and a decision made with incomplete information. The consulting fit-question guide helps you test each story against follow-up questions.
The current application requires a CV and makes the cover letter optional. If you submit a letter, use it to explain motivation that the CV cannot show. Do not repeat every bullet. Use the UK consulting CV guide for degree classes, evidence, and page-length decisions.

Common Elixirr assessment-centre mistakes
- Calling the process a standard live case interview when the firm publishes a mixed assessment centre.
- Speaking often without moving the group towards a decision.
- Treating every number as equally important.
- Presenting background before the recommendation.
- Ignoring a risk because it weakens the preferred option.
- Treating an older candidate report as the current timetable.
What should you confirm with recruiting?
Ask for the current exercise list, timing, allowed tools, presentation preparation time, and whether the centre is remote or in person. Also confirm document requirements and any reasonable adjustments. The invitation overrides general guidance.
How do you challenge an idea without damaging the group?
Challenge the assumption, not the person. Start with the shared objective, name the missing evidence, and offer a way to resolve it. For example: “I agree engagement matters. For the one-year value objective, we still need a link from engagement to revenue or retention. Could we value that before choosing the budgeting pilot?” This keeps the group moving and makes the trade-off explicit.
If the group stalls, summarise the decision so far and propose a time-boxed next step. If two options remain, compare them against the agreed criteria instead of reopening the whole brief. Before the presentation, confirm who owns the recommendation, evidence, risks, and next step. A polished slide cannot repair a recommendation that the team never agreed. Elixirr's format makes this group process visible, so collaboration and judgement must appear together.
After the exercise, debrief your contribution, analysis, communication, and adaptation. Record where you helped and where the decision could have been clearer. Elixirr publishes a mixed assessment format, so make both your individual judgement and your effect on the group visible.
How are group contributions likely to be assessed?
Elixirr does not publish a scoring rubric. The firm says the centre assesses skills and abilities through group activities, case studies, individual tasks, and interaction with employees. Use this preparation rubric as a behaviour check, not as an official scorecard:
A practical self-score is 0, 1, or 2 on each dimension after a mock. Record one observed behaviour, not a personality label. “Asked the finance holder for the missing cost and updated the recommendation” is useful evidence. “Good collaborator” is not.
