Consulting Salary Switzerland 2026: CHF by Firm and Level

Updated Nov 7, 2026By Esteban Ronsin · Founder · former Deloitte and Accenture Strategy consultant

Consulting salary in Switzerland starts at CHF 110K to 125K a year in gross total pay for entry-level consultants at McKinsey, BCG and Bain in Zurich, per Glassdoor (26 to 83 salaries per firm, November 6, 2026). This guide covers pay by firm and level, Big 4, Geneva and net pay.

Consulting in Switzerland pays in Swiss francs, mostly in Zurich, and the public data is better than most candidates expect. On November 6, 2026, Glassdoor listed 53 McKinsey Associate salaries, 83 BCG Associate salaries and 71 Bain Consultant salaries for Zurich alone. This page turns those submissions into a level-by-level CHF table for seven strategy firms and the Big 4, shows where Geneva is too thin to quote, and explains what a gross Swiss figure is worth after deductions. Every number carries its sample size and the date it was viewed.

How much do consultants earn in Switzerland?

Entry-level strategy consultants in Zurich report CHF 110K to 125K a year in gross total pay, and post-MBA hires at McKinsey, BCG and Bain report CHF 134K to 190K. These are Glassdoor's total pay ranges (base plus bonus, as employees enter them before tax) for Zurich, viewed on November 6, 2026. They are self-reported submissions collected over several years, not offer letters, and no firm publishes a Swiss pay grid.

Two things move a Swiss offer more than the firm name. The first is the entry route: McKinsey Switzerland's own FAQ sends bachelor's graduates to the fellow analyst role, master's graduates to Fellow and candidates with an MBA or 3 to 8 years of experience to Associate (McKinsey Switzerland careers, viewed November 6, 2026). The second is the year of the submission: Glassdoor's McKinsey Fellow entries for Zurich run from 2023 to June 2026, so a range is a spread of years as well as of people.

If you want the same comparison for New York, London or Singapore, the consulting salary by city guide owns that multi-city view. This page stays in Switzerland.

Zurich consulting salaries by firm and level

The MBB entry bands in Zurich cluster at CHF 110K to 125K; Roland Berger's lowest title sits in the same range, while Oliver Wyman's and Simon-Kucher's Consultant bands start lower, at CHF 101K and CHF 96K. The table lists every Zurich title with at least 5 Glassdoor submissions on November 6, 2026. Titles mean different things at different firms, so compare by entry route, not by the word "Consultant".

McKinsey Zurich salary

McKinsey is the best-documented firm in Switzerland: 62 job titles had Zurich submissions on the day of the check. The Fellow band (CHF 110K to 124K, 26 salaries) is the master's entry point and the Associate band (CHF 134K to 155K, 53 salaries) the post-MBA one. The step to Engagement Manager adds roughly CHF 35K to 65K at the band edges. McKinsey's Swiss office describes Zurich as home to over 400 colleagues and Geneva to 90 or more, which is why Zurich holds most of the data. For the global ladder and the US offer figures, see the McKinsey salary guide; for the role names, the McKinsey hierarchy.

BCG Zurich salary

BCG's Zurich Associate row has the largest sample of any strategy-firm title in Switzerland (83 salaries) and the tightest band, CHF 113K to 123K. The Consultant band jumps to CHF 153K to 182K and Project Leader to CHF 210K to 284K. BCG's Swiss careers page says entry levels range from Junior Associate to Partner depending on degree, so check which title your offer letter names before comparing it with a row. The BCG salary guide has the global ladder and the BCG levels guide explains the promotion path.

Bain Zurich salary

Bain's Associate Consultant band (CHF 110K to 125K, 56 salaries) sits on top of BCG's and McKinsey's entry bands. The Consultant band (CHF 180K to 190K, 71 salaries) is the highest post-MBA band in the table and also the narrowest relative to its sample size. Bain's Senior Associate Consultant row (CHF 110K to 130K, 22 salaries) overlaps the Associate Consultant row almost completely, so do not read it as a raise. More on Bain's global numbers in the Bain salary guide.

Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger and Simon-Kucher in Zurich

Roland Berger starts highest of the three: Junior Consultant CHF 118K to 125K (11 salaries) and Consultant CHF 131K to 145K (15 salaries). Oliver Wyman's Consultant band is wide (CHF 101K to 135K, 21 salaries), so ask which entry route your offer maps to before comparing it. Simon-Kucher's Consultant band (CHF 96K to 112K, 25 salaries) is the lowest strategy-firm row in the table. Firm-level context sits in the Oliver Wyman salary, Roland Berger salary and Simon-Kucher salary guides.

Do Big 4 consultants in Zurich earn less than MBB?

Yes: a Big 4 Consultant in Zurich reports CHF 82K to 105K and a Manager CHF 127K to 155K, against CHF 110K to 125K and CHF 169K to 284K for the comparable MBB levels. One caveat changes how to read this. Glassdoor groups Big 4 titles across audit, tax and advisory, so a "Consultant" row is not consulting-only. Deloitte's separate "Strategy Consultant" title (CHF 105K to 112K, 12 salaries) is the closest consulting-specific Big 4 row in Zurich.

The samples are deep, so the Big 4 bands are more stable than the strategy-firm bands, but the gap to MBB is real at every level. The trade-offs behind it are in Big 4 vs MBB consulting, and firm-level detail is in the Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG and Accenture salary guides.

Is consulting pay in Geneva different from Zurich?

Only McKinsey and the Big 4 have enough Geneva submissions to compare, and their Geneva bands sit close to Zurich. McKinsey Associates in Geneva report CHF 128K to 157K (18 salaries) against CHF 134K to 155K in Zurich; Fellows CHF 116K to 128K (9 salaries); Engagement Managers CHF 189K to 235K (9 salaries). A frequent question from Geneva readers is whether BCG pays more than Bain at the same level there. The public data cannot settle it. On the day of the check, BCG Geneva had 6 Associate and 6 Consultant salaries, and Bain Geneva had one salary per title. In Zurich, where both firms have large samples, entry pay is effectively the same and Bain's post-MBA band is higher.

Where the Swiss data is too thin to quote

Partner pay, most Geneva rows and several individual titles have fewer than 5 submissions, so this page does not give a range for them. A salary page that fills those gaps with a guess would make every sourced row less trustworthy. The gaps on November 6, 2026:

  • Partners. BCG Partner in Zurich had 4 salaries, Oliver Wyman Partner 3 and Principal 4. McKinsey Associate Partner (11 salaries, CHF 295K to 360K) is the only partner-track row with a usable sample. Partner economics are discussed in the McKinsey partner salary guide.
  • Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger and Simon-Kucher in Geneva. Oliver Wyman had no Geneva salaries at all, Roland Berger none in a consulting title, and Simon-Kucher 4 or fewer per title.
  • Simon-Kucher Associate Consultant in Zurich. The row shows CHF 36K to 54K on 12 salaries, the same range as the firm's intern row, which suggests intern or working-student submissions under that title. It is left out of the table.
  • Base versus bonus split. Glassdoor's level ranges are totals. Some individual submissions list base and bonus separately, but a single submission is not a range, so this page does not publish a split.
  • Levels.fyi. Its entry-level management consultant page for Zurich reports a median total compensation of CHF 91,005 (25th percentile CHF 77.2K, 75th percentile CHF 106K) on 17 salaries (Levels.fyi, Zurich entry level, viewed November 7, 2026). The sample is too small and too mixed to set a firm-level range, so the ranges above stay on Glassdoor, but it is an independent cross-check: it sits below the MBB entry bands, and the page does not say which employers it mixes, so treat it only as a rough check.

What is a Swiss consulting salary worth after deductions?

On CHF 120,000 gross, the mandatory federal social contributions alone take CHF 7,680 (6.4%) before pension, accident insurance and income tax. Employees pay half of the 10.6% AHV/IV/EO contribution, which is 5.3% of salary (AHV/IV leaflet 2.01, state January 1, 2026), and half of the 2.2% unemployment insurance (ALV) contribution, which is 1.1%, on pay up to CHF 148,200 per employment; no ALV contribution is due on pay above that ceiling (AHV/IV leaflet 2.08, state January 1, 2025). Both leaflets were read on November 6, 2026.

The rest of the gap between gross and net depends on things this page cannot standardise:

  • Occupational pension (BVG, second pillar). Contributions depend on the employer's pension plan and your age, so read the plan summary that comes with the offer.
  • Income tax. Switzerland taxes at federal, cantonal and communal level. Foreign workers resident in Switzerland without a C permit are taxed at source: the employer deducts it from the monthly salary, it covers federal, cantonal and communal income tax, and the rate varies from canton to canton (ch.ch, tax at source, viewed November 6, 2026). Zurich and Geneva are different cantons, so the same gross salary leaves a different net in each.
  • The 13th salary. Swiss law does not provide for a 13th month salary; including one is a choice made in the employment contract (KMU portal of the Swiss Federal Administration, viewed November 6, 2026). Check whether your annual figure is paid in 12 or 13 instalments. The annual ranges above are yearly totals either way, so do not add a 13th month on top of them.
  • Cost of living. This page does not quote a Zurich or Geneva cost-of-living figure because no official source fetched for it gives one for a consultant's situation. Model rent and health insurance from real listings and premiums for your canton.

Can non-EU candidates get a Swiss consulting job?

Yes, but the employer has to prove that no suitable Swiss or EU/EFTA candidate was available, and permits for third-country nationals are capped: 4,500 B and 4,000 L permits for 2026. The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) admits non-EU/EFTA nationals only as "managers, specialists and other qualified workers", which mainly means a university degree, and the salary and working conditions must match what is customary for the region, profession and sector (SEM, basis for admission; SEM, non-EU/EFTA nationals, both viewed November 6, 2026). The Federal Council kept the 2026 quotas unchanged from 2025 (Federal Council release, November 19, 2025).

Three details matter for consulting applicants:

  • Swiss graduates have an edge. SEM says graduates of recognised Swiss higher education institutions can be admitted without the precedence check if there is a significant academic or economic interest in their employment. A master's from a Swiss university is therefore the most common non-EU route into a Swiss office.
  • UK nationals are third-country nationals for new moves. SEM states that the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons no longer applies to the UK since January 1, 2021.
  • EU/EFTA nationals fall under the free movement agreement; the cantons issue their permits (SEM, EU/EFTA nationals, viewed November 6, 2026).

McKinsey's campus application FAQ adds the firm-side view: most of its offices require the local language and work authorisation for the country, and you can list up to three preferred offices.

When does McKinsey Switzerland recruit?

McKinsey Switzerland takes full-time applications six times a year and internship applications twice, on May 31 and November 30; the next cut-off for both is November 30, 2026. The Swiss careers page lists the six full-time dates as January 31, March 31, May 31, July 31, September 30 and November 30, and advises applying at least six months before you want to start (McKinsey Switzerland careers, viewed November 6, 2026).

Checked on McKinsey's Switzerland careers page, November 6, 2026.

The page lists the dates without a year, so treat them as the recurring rhythm and confirm the date on the page before you submit. The internship runs about 10 to 12 weeks and is open to students from at least their fourth undergraduate semester; master's students in their final semester are pointed to the full-time Fellow role instead. On language, McKinsey recommends Geneva if you speak French but not German and Zurich if you speak German but not French, with excellent English required for both. The McKinsey internship guide covers the programme itself, and the interview steps are in the McKinsey Solve guide and the McKinsey PEI guide.

BCG Switzerland works differently: it accepts full-time and internship applications for Zurich and Geneva all year with no deadlines, asks you to apply at least six months before your start date, and runs a 30-minute multiple-choice cognitive test about a month before the first interview. Full-time candidates then have one virtual 45-minute case and a final round of three in-person cases in Zurich; interviews are generally in German or French with at least one in English (BCG Switzerland application and interviews, viewed November 6, 2026). How that test compares with BCG's tests in other countries is in BCG's online assessment by country, and the language rules across Europe are in case interview language in Europe.

For the full DACH calendar, including Germany and Austria, read consulting recruiting in Germany; for every European market on one page, the Europe consulting recruiting timeline. If you are writing a German-style CV for a Zurich application, the consulting Lebenslauf guide applies there too.

How to compare a Swiss consulting offer

Compare the written offer against the band for the same title, office and year, and negotiate level and signing terms rather than base. Three rules keep the comparison honest:

  • Match the title to the entry route. A BCG Consultant and an Oliver Wyman Consultant are not the same seniority. Use the firm's own description of who the title is for, as McKinsey's Swiss FAQ does for Fellow and Associate.
  • Compare gross with gross. Glassdoor ranges are gross totals. Your offer may quote base only, base plus a target bonus, or a monthly figure times 13. Convert it to one yearly gross total first.
  • Ask for the pension plan and the tax-at-source canton. Two offers with the same gross can differ by thousands of francs in net pay once the employer's pension plan and the canton are known.

What usually moves in a negotiation is level placement and the one-off terms, not the entry base, which is banded. The consulting offer negotiation guide covers the mechanics, the consulting salary report 2026 gives the cross-market benchmarks, and the consulting exit opportunities guide prices the years after the offer.

None of these bands pays out until you pass the case rounds. BCG Switzerland alone runs four cases for full-time candidates, one virtual and three in person, and the case method is the same one used in every other office. A pharmaceuticals operations case is a good first rep.
