Roland Berger Salary 2026: Consultant to Partner Pay in EUR and USD
Roland Berger pays about €68K-€80K base at entry in Germany and $135K-$165K in the US. Full 2026 pay by level, bonus mechanics, DACH benefits, and partner economics.
On this page
Roland Berger pay splits cleanly along a geographic line, and reading one currency without the other is how candidates get the number wrong. In Germany, where the firm is headquartered and where most of its people sit, reported entry base runs €60,000 to €80,400 with an annual bonus of €5,000 to €16,000, so a first-year total lands roughly between €74,000 and €96,000. In the United States, the same job title reports $135,000 to $165,000 base, $18,000 to $42,000 performance bonus and $15,000 to $30,000 signing, which totals $168,000 to $237,000. Project Manager reports €160,000 to €220,000 in DACH and $215,000 to $308,000 in the US. Partner, a shareholder role in a firm that has been entirely partner-owned since the 1998 management buyout, reports $470,000 to $1,010,000 all-in.
That transatlantic gap is not a discount. German statutory pension, employer health contributions and 28 to 30 vacation days carry value that a currency conversion silently deletes, and this page prices them in level by level, with every figure dated and sourced.

Roland Berger Salary in Germany and DACH by Level
Germany is the firm's home market. Roland Berger was founded in Munich in 1967, keeps its headquarters there, and runs more than 50 offices with roughly 3,500 employees, according to its company profile. Revenue crossed one billion euros for the first time in 2023.
Reported DACH compensation, by level:
The three public sources disagree at the entry rung, and the disagreement is informative rather than noise. Squeaker's Roland Berger insider reports give a Junior Consultant monthly base of €5,700, which annualizes to €68,400, with a bonus of €6,000 to €12,100 for a €74,400 to €80,500 total. The same source puts Consultant base at €6,700 per month, or €80,400 a year, with a bonus up to €16,000. PrepLounge's DACH salary data, updated 12 September 2025, lists Roland Berger entry at €72,000 base and €75,000 or more all-in. StrategyCase gives the wider €60,000 to €75,000 band.
The practical reading: a Master's-level offer in Munich or Frankfurt should land in the high sixties to low eighties on base, and anything materially below that band deserves a question in the offer call. Internships report €2,500 to €3,500 per month, which is a useful anchor because Roland Berger converts a meaningful share of interns.
If you are still at the interview stage of that offer, the process itself is covered in the Roland Berger case interview guide, and the firm's candidate-led case style is worked end to end in the Roland Berger practice cases.
What German Benefits Add on Top of Base and Bonus
Comparing a €80,000 Munich package to a $200,000 New York package as if the only difference were the exchange rate produces a wrong answer. StrategyCase estimates that mandatory German benefits add 25 to 35 percent in non-cash value on top of gross pay. The components that do the work:
- Statutory pension contribution, around 9.3 percent of gross paid by the employer, on top of the employee share.
- Health insurance, roughly €7,300 of employer contribution on a €100,000 gross salary.
- Vacation, 28 to 30 days in the German market against 10 to 15 days typical in US consulting.
- Parental leave, protected for up to 14 months, which is not a benefit that has a US equivalent at any strategy firm.
Squeaker's reports also list an annual cash bonus, company pension top-up (Altersvorsorge), insurance products and a company car among Roland Berger's German benefits. The company car in particular is a DACH consulting norm that rarely appears in US comparisons and is worth several thousand euros of after-tax value per year.
None of this closes a $237,000 versus €96,400 gap outright. It does mean that the honest gap at Consultant level is closer to 40 percent than the 60 percent a raw conversion implies, before income tax, which is materially higher in Germany and cuts the other way.
Roland Berger Salary in the United States by Level
The US footprint is smaller and the reported numbers are higher, because a US offer competes directly against MBB and elite boutique packages in New York, Chicago, Detroit and Boston.
The Consultant midpoint is worth memorizing because it is the number a recruiter will benchmark against: $150,000 base, $22,000 signing, $30,000 performance bonus, $202,000 all-in, per Casestar's Consultant page anchored to May 2026. The Project Manager band differs slightly between sources, with Casestar reporting $175,000 to $218,000 base and StrategyCase $200,000 to $240,000, which is consistent with a wide level that spans two to three years.
Levels.fyi's Roland Berger page, last updated 30 July 2026, reports a $139,889 median for Management Consultant and $257,880 for Project Manager, the latter from a United Arab Emirates submission. Treat single-submission medians on that page with care: the same page shows a $32,818 figure for a Data Scientist in Germany, which is an intern-shaped number sitting in a full-time table.
Asia-Pacific reports lower again. Singapore bands run SGD 90,000 to 120,000 at Junior Consultant, SGD 130,000 to 180,000 at Senior Consultant and SGD 200,000 to 280,000 at Project Manager.
How the Roland Berger Bonus Actually Works
The single most useful mechanical detail about Roland Berger pay is how the annual bonus is split. Squeaker's insider reports describe it as 50 percent individual performance and 50 percent firm result.
That structure has three consequences a candidate should price in:
- A great personal year in a soft market pays below the ceiling. Half of the variable component is outside your control, which is different from a firm where the bonus tracks your rating alone.
- The published maximum is not the expected value. A €16,000 Consultant ceiling in Germany, or a $42,000 US ceiling, is a top-band outcome. Model the midpoint, not the maximum, when comparing offers.
- The firm result component is real upside in strong years. Revenue crossed one billion euros in 2023, and the profit-share logic that governs partner pay runs down through the bonus pool.
Signing bonuses appear consistently in US offers at $15,000 to $30,000 and are much rarer in German entry offers, where the negotiating currency is start date, office and project stream rather than cash up front.
Roland Berger vs MBB Salary in Germany
This is the comparison most candidates are actually running. All figures below are entry-level, Master's graduate, German market, from PrepLounge's DACH salary data updated 12 September 2025, cross-checked against Levels.fyi Germany data for McKinsey updated 31 July 2026.
Levels.fyi's Germany data for McKinsey shows €82,100 at Business Analyst, €91,000 at Associate and €113,000 at Senior Associate, with a €95,373 median across levels. That is a useful sanity check: it confirms the €80,000-plus McKinsey entry figure and suggests the MBB premium in Germany is real but modest, on the order of €8,000 to €18,000 at entry rather than the two-fold gap that US comparisons imply.
Where Roland Berger closes the gap is above Project Manager. A €160,000 to €220,000 DACH Project Manager band and a €235,000 to €320,000 Principal band are competitive with anything in the German market, and the partner ladder at a firm with roughly 350 partners across a €1bn revenue base is arithmetically easier to reach than at a firm several times the size. The tier structure comparison covers how that trade sits against MBB brand equity.
What Partner Ownership Is Actually Worth
Roland Berger's own career stages page is unusually direct about this: "Making Partner means you're a shareholder." That is not decorative language. The firm is entirely owned by its partners, converted to a KGaA (partnership limited by shares) in 2023, and has twice chosen independence over a sale: a 1998 management buyout reclaimed control from Deutsche Bank, and a proposed 2010 merger with Deloitte's consulting arm was rejected by the partners.
For compensation, three things follow:
- Partner pay is a profit share, not a band. Reported all-in of $470,000 to $1,010,000 in the US and €600,000-plus in DACH describes a distribution, not a scale. StrategyCase puts Senior Partner at €1.5M to €3M in strong years.
- There is no external shareholder taking a cut, which is the structural argument for why a mid-sized independent firm can pay competitively at the top despite a smaller revenue base than MBB.
- The denominator matters. Roughly 350 partners as of November 2024 against revenue above €1bn is a meaningfully different arithmetic from a firm with thousands of partners.
The trade-off is exposure. In a weak year, a partner at an employee-owned firm absorbs the downside directly, and the 50/50 bonus split lower down the ladder is the same principle applied to consultants.
Promotion Timeline: How Fast the Number Moves
The firm's official ladder runs Consulting/Business Analyst, Junior Consultant, Consultant, Senior Consultant, Project Manager, Principal, Partner. Reported tenure per stage, from Casestar's May and June 2026 career data:
Casestar characterizes the environment as a competitive up-or-out culture with 55 to 75 hour weeks and 50 to 70 percent travel at Consultant level. Those two numbers belong next to the pay figures: a $202,000 midpoint at 65 hours a week is a different hourly outcome from the same number at 50 hours, and the travel load is at the high end for the European market. The consulting career path piece covers how these stage lengths compare across firms.
Negotiating a Roland Berger Offer
Base salary at entry is close to fixed in the German market. Roland Berger, like its DACH peers, runs standardized graduate bands, and the €72,000 to €80,400 spread across sources reflects level and degree rather than negotiating skill. What does move:
- Level placement. The difference between a Junior Consultant and a Consultant offer is roughly €12,000 of base in Germany, and it is decided by degree, prior experience and internship conversion, all of which are arguable before the offer is issued.
- Signing bonus in the US. The $15,000 to $30,000 band is wide enough that a competing offer moves it. It is the single most negotiable line in a US package.
- Start date and unpaid time before start. Standard currency in DACH offers and worth several thousand euros of effective value.
- Office and practice stream. Automotive and industrial work is Roland Berger's historic core, and stream placement affects the project mix that drives your individual bonus half.
What does not move: the firm-result half of the bonus, the pension and insurance structure, and the published band for your level. A candidate who spends negotiating capital on base at entry usually spends it for nothing.
The stronger lever is arriving with a competing offer, which means the case rounds have to go well at more than one firm. The behavioral side of that, which Roland Berger weights heavily on ownership and initiative, is covered in the Roland Berger behavioral interview questions piece, and your application documents can be scored against consulting standards with the free consulting resume grader.
What Roland Berger Pay Looks Like After You Leave
Casestar reports roughly 15 to 35 percent of Roland Berger consultants exiting to industry roles, with unusually strong flow into European corporates, automotive and industrial companies. That destination mix is the direct consequence of the client base, and it shapes exit compensation in a specific way.
An automotive or industrial corporate strategy role in Germany typically pays close to a Senior Consultant's total rather than a Project Manager's, but with a 40-hour week and materially less travel. On an hourly basis the exit is often a raise even when the headline number falls. Private equity and venture exits, which drive the highest post-consulting compensation, are a smaller share of Roland Berger's flow than of MBB's, because the firm's deal-diligence practice is smaller relative to its operations and restructuring work.
Read the full destination map, including how compensation resets by exit type, in the consulting exit opportunities guide. For the broader market picture across firms and levels, the consulting salary guide and the consulting salary report 2026 carry the full data set, and consulting salary by city adjusts for cost of living, which matters more for a Munich versus New York decision than for any two US offices.
Turning the Number Into an Offer
Every figure on this page is conditional on clearing a candidate-led case process that Roland Berger runs differently from MBB: you drive the structure, you ask for the data, and the group case format appears in several offices. Preparation that maps to that specific format is worth more than generic case volume.
A sensible sequence: read the Roland Berger case interview guide for the process and round structure, work the Roland Berger practice cases for candidate-led reps in the firm's automotive and industrial territory, then run a full graded case end to end to see where your structuring and math actually sit under time pressure.
If you are still applying, the Roland Berger CV guide and the Roland Berger cover letter guide cover the documents that get you to the interview.
