On this page

KPMG pays between roughly $82,000 and $452,000 a year in the United States below equity partner, and almost all of it is cash. An advisory associate lands near $82,000 to $99,000 total on about $86,000 base, per Glassdoor data covering 1,063 submissions through June 2024. A senior associate runs $114,000 to $169,000 with a $138,000 median on about $130,000 base, backed by the deepest sample in the data at 5,820 submissions. Managers land between $152,000 and $205,000 on about $164,000 base, and senior managers reach $264,000 at the top of the New York band.

Outside the US the shape holds with lower nominal bands. UK managers average near £72,000 base plus £4,000 additional pay across more than 1,200 submissions, and senior managers average near £94,000 base plus £8,000. Every number below carries its source and check date, and where two snapshots disagree, both are shown side by side with the overlap called out.

The table below uses Glassdoor US bands as the spine, because they report per-level ranges on large samples with named dates. Levels.fyi anchors sit beside them where the series overlap. MBA offer-letter figures measure signed letters, not realised packages, so they sit in their own row.

What KPMG pays analysts and associates

The Advisory Associate is the campus entry role for consulting work, and it is the level where the offer-letter number and the realised package differ most. The Glassdoor realised band rests on 1,063 submissions: about $86,000 average base plus $4,000 additional pay inside an $82,000 to $99,000 total range (June 2024). The all-firm Associate page, which pools audit, tax, and advisory, averages about $94,500 across 4,687 submissions as of November 2025, which is why a single headline Associate number should never anchor an advisory offer.

Offer trackers report higher campus bands because they capture the signed letter rather than the banked package. Management Consulted lists undergrad and master's base at $78,000 to $94,000 with total cash up to $94,000, strategy hires at $93,000 to $100,000 base, and signing up to $8,000 generally or $10,000 for strategy (checked September 2026). The ladder behind these titles, including the Global Strategy Group graduate path, is covered in the KPMG consulting overview.

What KPMG pays senior associates, consultants, and managers

This is the best-documented stretch of the ladder. Senior Associates show $114,000 to $169,000 total with a $138,000 median on about $130,000 base plus $9,000 additional pay, across 5,820 submissions, the deepest sample in the data (Glassdoor, February 2025). Consultants show $109,000 to $155,000 across 345 submissions as of November 2025, with the monthly-pay snapshot putting base near $9,000 a month plus about $560 additional (Glassdoor, September 2024). Managers show $152,000 to $205,000 on about $164,000 average base, with base running 93.1 percent of the package and bonus 6.9 percent (Glassdoor, 2026 model).

MBA hires enter this stretch from above rather than below. Management Consulted lists incoming MBA and PhD base at $145,000 with performance bonus up to $17,400 for total cash up to $162,400, plus signing up to $35,000 and relocation up to $10,000 (checked September 2026). That letter measures a different thing from the Glassdoor realised bands, so the honest read is to carry both: the letter for what you can negotiate, the realised band for what a typical year pays.

Why the same KPMG level shows two different numbers

Two Glassdoor snapshots disagree about Senior Associates by roughly $28,000 at the bottom and $59,000 at the top. Neither is wrong. The $114,000 to $169,000 band covers every Senior Associate in the firm, while the $86,000 to $110,000 Advisory Senior Associate band covers 379 advisory submissions captured in September 2024. Audit and tax seniors pull the all-firm average up, and the advisory slice is the one that prices a consulting offer.

Three rules keep a comparison honest:

  • Fix the measure before the firm. Base, total cash, realised packages, and signed offer letters answer different questions. Compare like with like or the conclusion is an artefact.
  • Fix the date. Every figure here carries the snapshot date beside it. Bonus pools move every year even when bases sit still.
  • Fix the geography. A New York figure and a national figure are not the same offer in a different office, because role mix and bonus pools differ by market.

For the multi-firm version of this exercise, use the consulting salary guide and the consulting salary report 2026. For purchasing-power adjustment across offices, see consulting salary by city.

KPMG bonus, signing, and retirement mechanics

The package is cash: base plus performance bonus plus, for campus and MBA hires, a signing bonus. Management Consulted documents the signing ladder at up to $8,000 for undergrad and master's hires, up to $10,000 for strategy hires, and up to $35,000 for incoming MBAs and PhDs (checked September 2026). Performance bonus at MBA entry runs up to $17,400 on the $145,000 base, about 12 percent, while the Glassdoor model puts bonus near 7 percent of the Manager package and the New York Senior Manager snapshot near $20,000 on a $203,000 base, about 10 percent.

Retirement is the component most candidates underweight. The same profile lists a 401(k) match of 50 percent on deposits up to 5 percent of salary, an effective 2.5 percent employer contribution, alongside 30 days of vacation and relocation up to $2,000 for campus hires or $10,000 for MBAs. Confirm the match formula in writing before comparing against a firm that publishes a higher unconditional contribution. MBA interns bill at $66 an hour with $99 overtime, which annualises well above the full-time campus base for the weeks worked.

KPMG senior manager, director, and partner pay: ranges and gaps

Senior Managers in New York show $191,000 to $264,000 total with a $223,000 median, on about $203,000 base plus $20,000 additional pay across 127 salaries (Glassdoor, August 2024). The national monthly-pay snapshot implies about $192,000 to $252,000 annualised on about $17,000 monthly base, which overlaps the New York band rather than contradicting it. Levels.fyi anchors Senior Manager at $236,000 median total, inside both (checked September 11, 2026).

Directors in New York show $209,000 to $305,000 with a $251,000 median on about $225,000 base plus $26,000 additional pay, across 986 salaries (Glassdoor, July 2024). Above director the data thins fast. Principals show $244,000 to $396,000 on about $255,000 base plus $54,000 additional across only 21 salaries (Glassdoor, June 2024). A Los Angeles Partner snapshot shows about $278,000 base plus $47,000 additional inside a $244,000 to $439,000 range, and Managing Partners show $249,000 to $452,000 on about $263,000 base plus $68,000 additional. Treat every partner-row figure as a thin-sample anchor with the sample size stated, not an offer figure.

The named gap is equity partner distributions. The official Strategy careers page publishes roles, not bands (checked September 11, 2026), and no fetched source states partner profit-share mechanics with a citable number. Deleting the gap would be worse than naming it: a salary page that invents partner pay destroys trust in every accurate row above it.

KPMG vs McKinsey, BCG, and Bain in 2026

KPMG trails MBB at MBA entry and the gap is honest about why. Year-one totals below are base plus bonus plus signing where disclosed; KPMG's row uses the documented offer-letter maximums.

FirmMBA entry titleBaseYear-one total
KPMGConsultant (MBA hire)$145,000Cash up to $162,400 plus signing up to $35,000
McKinseyAssociate$192,000About $262,000–$267,000
BCGConsultant$190,000About $260,000–$270,000
BainConsultantAbout $192,000About $275,000–$285,000

Sources: Management Consulted KPMG profile row above; MBB rows as published on our McKinsey salary, BCG salary, and Bain salary pages. MBB firms charge a premium for generalist scale and brand; KPMG charges less and staffs broader across deals, technology, and transformation.

The trade is scope and exit breadth, not the entry check. KPMG's advisory mix feeds industry finance, technology, and operations leadership directly, which is why candidates who price responsibility and exit optionality over year-one cash still take the offer. That trade sits at the centre of the wider MBB versus boutique versus Tier 2 comparison, and the Big 4 consulting firms guide plus the Big 4 versus MBB comparison put the KPMG economics in context.

KPMG salary outside the United States

Non-US figures come from smaller samples and should be read as directional. UK Managers average near £72,000 base plus £4,000 additional pay across more than 1,200 submissions, inside a £64,000 to £79,000 base band (Glassdoor UK Manager, 2026). UK Senior Managers average near £94,000 base plus £8,000 additional pay across about 720 submissions (Glassdoor UK Senior Manager, 2026). Frankfurt Senior Managers show €123,000 to €162,000 with a €148,000 median on about €117,000 base plus €38,000 additional across 52 salaries (Glassdoor Frankfurt, June 2024).

Campus entry points outside the US are documented only in offer-letter form: the UK near £29,150, Canada up to C$70,000 for undergrads and C$120,000 for MBAs with bonus up to C$15,000, and Dublin at €32,000 (Management Consulted, checked September 2026). For France this page found no verified firm-specific band. Confirm the local band with a recruiter and in the written offer rather than converting a US figure.

Negotiating a KPMG offer: what actually moves

Base salary at entry is banded and moves very little, because a firm that hires a cohort cannot pay one associate more than the person sitting beside them without breaking the band. What does move:

  • Signing bonus. The documented ladder runs from $8,000 campus to $10,000 strategy to $35,000 MBA, which makes it the first thing to ask about, particularly against a competing offer with a documented number.
  • Level placement. For experienced hires this is worth more than any cash negotiation. Entering as a Senior Associate rather than an Associate shifts the Glassdoor band by roughly $30,000 at the bottom. Argue the scope of your prior work, not the salary.
  • Service line and office. Advisory, federal, and deal practices run different bands (the federal Advisory Associate snapshot averages about $93,000 base against $86,000 commercial, on only 12 salaries), and New York snapshots run above national ones (Sources: Glassdoor Advisory Associate Federal, June 2024; Glassdoor Advisory Associate, June 2024). Ask which population your offer was priced against.
  • Start date and relocation. Lower stakes, more flexible, and worth asking about when the cash components are fixed.
  • Nothing, if you have no alternative. A negotiation without a competing offer or a documented current package is a request, and it is usually answered with the band.

Two things that do not help: quoting an aggregate figure from a salary site as if it were an entitlement, and negotiating before the offer is formally extended. Bring your own current total compensation in writing, or a competing offer letter, or accept the band.

What KPMG compensation is worth on exit

KPMG's breadth shapes where its people go, and exit compensation is part of the value of the offer rather than a separate topic. Industry finance, technology, and operations leadership roles recruit from the firm for exactly the reps juniors accumulate: staffed early, client-facing fast, across approximately 16 industry sectors (Source: Management Consulted KPMG profile, checked September 2026). The mechanics of that calculation, including how title and tenure map to industry bands, are in the consulting exit opportunities guide.

One practical consequence: if the exit is the plan, the Manager promotion is the milestone that changes your industry title, not the Associate promotion. That argues for staying through the promotion cycle where the pay curve also steepens from about $138,000 median Senior Associate total toward the $152,000 to $205,000 Manager band.

The interview that unlocks the number

None of these figures pay out until you clear the process. KPMG varies the process by role, office, and service line: screening, online assessments in some offices, behavioral interviews plus a live or written case, and a senior conversation. The format, the worked examples, and a prep plan are in the KPMG case interview guide, and the fit and motivation questions the firm actually asks are in KPMG behavioral interview questions. Assessment routes are covered in the KPMG assessment test guide, with graduate routes in KPMG Launch Pad. The student doors sit behind the KPMG internships guide and KPMG Embark Scholars, and the free document shelf is in free KPMG resources.
