AlixPartners pays between roughly $83,000 and $437,000 a year in the United States below partner level, and the shape of that band reflects the firm's turnaround model. An undergraduate hire lands near $83,000 to $120,000 total, depending on whether you read realised Glassdoor submissions or signed offer data. An MBA hire enters near $240,000 to $275,000 in first-year cash on a $180,000 base with a $35,000 signing bonus. Vice presidents show about $240,000 in reported packages, senior vice presidents $258,000 to $395,000, and directors reach $437,000 at the top of the reported ladder.

Outside the US the shape holds with lower nominal bands. UK vice presidents show base slices near £79,000 to £113,000 on a deep sample of 161 submissions. Every number below carries its source and check date, and where two sources disagree, both are shown side by side with the overlap called out.

The table below uses signed offer data for entry levels and reported-package ladders above them, because no single source covers the full path from analyst to director. Realised submissions anchor the associate bands where offer data thins out.

What AlixPartners pays an undergraduate analyst

The analyst band is where the two source types diverge most, and both deserve weight. Glassdoor submissions from working analysts put the band at $83,000 to $115,000 total with a $97,000 median, on about $87,000 base plus $11,000 additional pay, but across only 17 salaries. Signed offer data for incoming undergraduates runs $110,000 base plus up to $10,000 performance bonus for $120,000 total cash, with a $5,000 signing bonus and 17 days of vacation.

The honest read is the full $83,000 to $120,000 span. Realised pay trails headline offers because not every analyst clears the full bonus, and thin samples move as new submissions arrive. The ladder behind these titles is covered in the AlixPartners consulting overview.

What AlixPartners pays associates, including restructuring

Associates are the best-sampled band in the data. The headline Associate page shows $113,000 to $162,000 total with a $135,000 median on about $119,000 base plus $16,000 additional pay across 57 salaries. The Turnaround and Restructuring slice, the practice closest to the firm's identity, runs $97,000 to $162,000 with a $125,000 median on about $114,000 base plus $12,000 additional pay.

Two things stand out. First, the restructuring slice medians slightly below the generalist associate median, which likely reflects mix and tenure rather than a practice discount. Second, neither slice separates signing or MBA tuition support, so experienced hires with competing offers should confirm those components directly. For the case style this level interviews on, see the restructuring case interview walkthrough and the cost reduction case interview.

What AlixPartners pays an MBA hire

MBA and PhD hires enter as Consultants on the clearest offer sheet in the data: $180,000 base, a bonus of at least $60,000 described as uncapped, total cash of at least $240,000, a $35,000 signing bonus, relocation up to $5,000, 22 vacation days, and a 3.75 percent of total compensation retirement contribution after year one. The firm's own interview-prep page phrases the same package as a $180,000 base with a maximum $60,000 bonus and $35,000 signing, putting potential first-year cash at $275,000.

MBA interns earn $35,000 for the program plus a $3,000 signing bonus on conversion. That intern rate annualises well above the undergrad analyst band, which is consistent with the firm pricing MBA talent as its core hiring channel. For the broader MBA market context, use the consulting salary guide and the consulting salary report 2026.

What vice presidents, senior vice presidents and directors show

Above MBA entry the data shifts from offer sheets to reported packages, and the ladder is remarkably linear. The Levels.fyi management consultant series reports Consultant at $125,000, Vice President at $240,000, Senior Vice President at $330,000, and Director at $437,000. The company-wide median package is $221,603, spanning $100,500 for a Data Scientist at the low end to $436,750 for a Director-level Management Consultant.

One cross-check exists at the SVP level and it roughly agrees: Glassdoor puts Senior Vice Presidents at $258,000 to $395,000 total on about $243,000 average base, which brackets the $330,000 ladder figure rather than contradicting it. Treat every figure above VP as a thin-sample anchor. Samples shrink with seniority, individual books of business move pay more than bands do, and the firm's private partnership structure means no verified distribution data disciplines the top of the range.

Why the same AlixPartners level shows two different numbers

Three disagreements appear in this data and none of them is an error. First, the analyst band: $83,000 to $115,000 in realised submissions versus $120,000 in signed offers. Realised pay and offer letters answer different questions, because bonuses pay out below target in soft years.

Second, the MBA bonus: the 2026 salary report phrases it as at least $60,000 and uncapped, while the interview-prep page calls $60,000 the maximum. Both agree on the $180,000 base, the $35,000 signing, and roughly $60,000 in year-one bonus. The honest read is a $60,000 target with upside that depends on practice performance, which fits a turnaround firm whose fees spike in distressed cycles.

Third, the SVP band: $258,000 to $395,000 on Glassdoor against $330,000 on Levels.fyi. Different submission pools captured months apart, and the ladder figure sits inside the Glassdoor range.

Three rules keep a comparison honest:

  • Fix the measure before the firm. Base, total cash and reported packages answer different questions. Compare like with like or the conclusion is an artefact.
  • Fix the date. Every figure here carries the snapshot date beside it. Bonus pools move every year even when bases sit still.
  • Fix the geography. A New York figure and a London figure are not the same offer in a different currency, because the benefits and tax base differ.

AlixPartners bonus, signing and retirement mechanics

The package is cash with no equity component at any consulting level: base plus performance bonus plus signing, with retirement as the only deferred piece. Undergraduates see up to $10,000 in performance bonus with a $5,000 signing bonus. MBA hires see at least $60,000 in bonus with a $35,000 signing bonus, relocation up to $5,000, and a 3.75 percent of total compensation retirement contribution starting after year one.

What the data supports is the shape of variable pay. The bonus runs about 9 percent of base at undergrad entry and at least 33 percent of base at MBA entry, and the firm's own pages describe it as uncapped above that. The bonus lever grows with seniority and with distressed deal flow, which means a restructuring-heavy year pays differently from a quiet one in a way a banded MBB base does not.

AlixPartners partner pay: the documented gap

No fetched source states partner compensation or profit-share mechanics with a citable number. The official careers page publishes entry paths for students and experienced professionals, not bands. Deleting the gap would be worse than naming it: a salary page that invents partner pay destroys trust in every accurate row above it. This gap matters more here than at a generalist firm, because partner economics are the real prize in a turnaround practice where senior leaders carry personal responsibility for distressed mandates. If the partnership track is part of your decision, ask for the distribution mechanics in the interview process, alongside the AlixPartners case interview guide.

AlixPartners vs McKinsey, BCG and Bain in 2026

AlixPartners sits near MBB at MBA entry with a wider range around the number. Year-one totals below are base plus bonus plus signing where disclosed.

FirmMBA entry titleBaseYear-one total
AlixPartnersConsultant$180,000About $240,000–$275,000
McKinseyAssociate$192,000About $262,000–$267,000
BCGConsultant$190,000About $260,000–$270,000
BainConsultant$192,000About $275,000–$285,000

Sources: Management Consulted 2026 offer rows above; MBB rows as published on our McKinsey salary, BCG salary, and Bain salary pages. MBB firms charge a premium for generalist scale and brand; AlixPartners prices slightly below base but offers uncapped bonus upside tied to distressed deal flow.

The trade is the mandate, not just the entry check. AlixPartners staffs operators who take ownership of cost, cash, and execution under pressure, which is why candidates with restructuring stories price the two-to-four year distressed exit over year-one cash. That trade sits at the centre of the wider MBB versus boutique versus Tier 2 comparison, and the fellow turnaround specialist Alvarez and Marsal overview plus the management consulting firms ranking put the AlixPartners economics in context.

AlixPartners salary outside the United States

Non-US figures come from smaller samples and should be read as directional. UK Vice Presidents show base slices near £79,000 to £91,000 and £97,000 to £113,000 on a deep sample of 161 submissions (Glassdoor UK Vice President, checked September 11, 2026). No fetched source states a verified UK band below vice president, and none states a Germany or France band at any level, matching the gap the AlixPartners consulting overview already flags.

Confirm the local band with a recruiter and in the written offer rather than converting a US figure. Statutory benefits and tax treatment differ enough that a converted number misleads more than it informs.

Negotiating an AlixPartners offer: what actually moves

Base salary at entry is banded and moves very little, because a firm that hires a cohort cannot pay one consultant more than the person sitting beside them without breaking the band. What does move:

  • Signing bonus. The $35,000 MBA figure and $5,000 undergrad figure are documented starting points, which makes them the first thing to test against a competing offer with a higher number.
  • Bonus target and its cap. The one open question in the data is whether the $60,000 MBA bonus is a floor or a ceiling. Get the target, the cap if any, and the payout formula in writing.
  • Level placement. For experienced hires this is worth more than any cash negotiation. Entering as a Vice President rather than a Consultant is worth roughly $115,000 in reported packages on the ladder figures. Argue the scope of your prior operating work, not the salary.
  • Nothing, if you have no alternative. A negotiation without a competing offer or a documented current package is a request, and it is usually answered with the band.

Two things that do not help: quoting an aggregate figure from a salary site as if it were an entitlement, and negotiating before the offer is formally extended. A competing turnaround offer, including one from a fellow restructuring specialist, carries more weight than any generalist number. Bring your own current total compensation in writing, or a competing offer letter, or accept the band.

What AlixPartners compensation is worth on exit

AlixPartners turnaround reps shape where its people go, and exit compensation is part of the value of the offer rather than a separate topic. Restructuring advisory, special situations and distressed investing teams, private equity operating roles, and corporate transformation leadership recruit from the firm for exactly the reps juniors accumulate: liquidity crises, cost takeouts, and operating under pressure. The mechanics of that calculation, including how title and tenure map to industry bands, are in the consulting exit opportunities guide.

One practical consequence: if the exit is the plan, the Vice President promotion is the milestone that changes your deal-team title, not the Consultant promotion. That argues for staying through the promotion cycle where the pay curve also steepens toward $240,000 and beyond.

The interview that unlocks the number

None of these figures pay out until you clear the process. AlixPartners runs three rounds over two to three months pairing candidate-led turnaround cases with behavioral questions, then closes with a psychological and psychometric assessment most firms never require. Preparation for the case rounds is covered in the AlixPartners case interview guide, and the underlying method is in the case interview prep guide. The fit and motivation questions the firm actually asks are in the behavioral interview questions guide, and the profitability framework covers the diagnostic backbone of a turnaround case.
