Consulting CV Netherlands: Language, Documents, and Examples (2026)

Build a consulting CV for Netherlands offices: choose English or Dutch, verify cover-letter and transcript rules, write quantified bullets, and grade your draft.

A consulting CV for Netherlands offices should use the language of the live vacancy, state Dutch and English levels honestly, and include only the documents that the firm asks for. Current local rules differ: Strategy& Amsterdam asks for a CV, academic transcripts, and cover letter, while Roland Berger Amsterdam asks for a cover letter, detailed CV, and high-school and university transcripts. There is no universal Dutch consulting pack.

Should your consulting CV be in Dutch or English?

Use the vacancy language as the default, then read the requirements line by line. Do not infer the working-language rule from the job-post language alone.

SituationSafer choiceWhat to verify
Vacancy and portal are in DutchDutch CV and letterRequired Dutch level and whether English documents are accepted
Vacancy is in English and names English as the working languageEnglish CVWhether Dutch is still required or preferred
English vacancy explicitly requires DutchEnglish CV can still be correctState the Dutch level clearly and do not overclaim it
Firm page gives no language ruleMatch the vacancyAsk recruiting before translating the full pack

Current firm facts show why the check matters. Roland Berger Amsterdam asks for excellent English and good Dutch. Eurékon requires professional working Dutch. McKinsey's Netherlands office page says applicants should be fluent in Dutch and English. Gupta's current strategy-consultant vacancy requires written and spoken Dutch at minimum C1. Other firms and roles can differ.

Use a recognized level such as Dutch B2 or English C1 only when you can support it. Add a short qualifier when useful, such as “Dutch B2, client meetings and written reports.” Do not replace a real level with “professional” if that hides uncertainty.

What documents do Netherlands consulting firms request?

The live vacancy controls the pack. Prepare these files so that you can respond without rushing, but submit only what is requested.

Firm exampleCurrent official requestWhat it means for your preparation
Strategy& AmsterdamCV, academic transcripts, cover letterKeep one clean transcript PDF and tailor the letter to the office
Roland Berger AmsterdamCover letter, detailed CV, and high-school and university transcriptsExplain why the Amsterdam office and keep academic records ready
EurékonCV plus pre-university and university transcriptsPair the pack with honest written and spoken Dutch evidence
Gupta StrategistsFollow the live vacancyDo not infer one pack from interview reports or an old PDF

The Netherlands consulting firms guide compares the interview shapes behind these applications. For the letter itself, use the consulting cover letter guide, but keep every claim tied to the local office and role.

What sections should the CV include?

Use a clean reverse-chronological page that makes academic results, impact, leadership, and languages easy to scan.

SectionWhat to includeNetherlands consulting check
HeaderName, phone, email, LinkedIn, current cityAdd work authorization only when it reduces a real uncertainty
EducationDegree, institution, dates, grades when useful, honorsKeep transcript labels consistent with the attached records
ExperienceRoles with outcome-led bulletsTranslate the business meaning, not only the job title
LeadershipClubs, teams, volunteer work, initiativesShow ownership and result, not membership
LanguagesHonest level for Dutch, English, and other useful languagesMatch the vacancy's stated requirement
SkillsSelective tools or certificationsRemove generic soft skills that the bullets should prove

For most students and early-career applicants, one page is a useful default. It is not a universal country rule. An experienced hire can use a second page when it carries relevant evidence and the role permits it. Read the full consulting resume guide before cutting high-value experience only to obey a myth.

How do Dutch CV conventions differ from consulting CV conventions?

Dutch-market CV guides disagree about photos, profiles, exact length, and personal details. Use official employment guidance for the broad basics and the consulting screen for the final choice.

DecisionBroad Netherlands optionConsulting default
LengthOne or two pages can workOne page for most graduate applications; page two only for relevant experienced evidence
Profile paragraphCommon on broad Dutch CV templatesUse only when it adds a clear positioning fact that the evidence does not already show
PhotoOptional and employer-dependentOmit unless the employer requests it or you make a deliberate choice
LanguageDutch or English follows the roleMatch the vacancy and state both levels honestly
Personal dataBroad templates can include extra detailsKeep contact and useful location or work-authorization information only
BulletsDuties can appear in general CV examplesShow ownership, scale, result, and analytical relevance

The official WorkinNL CV guidance supports a clear CV with contact details, education, work experience, skills, and languages. It does not set a strategy-firm rule for photos or page length, so the live vacancy still controls those choices.

One page or two pages?

CandidateDefaultWhen a second page earns its place
Undergraduate or recent graduateOne pageThe firm asks for a fuller project or academic record
Master's or PhD candidateOne pageRelevant research or technical projects cannot be stated clearly on one page
MBA or early experienced hireOne page when possiblePromotions, leadership, and client impact would otherwise be lost
Senior experienced hireOne or two pagesEvery line on page two supports the target role

How do you write quantified consulting bullets?

Use Outcome + Measure + Mechanism. Start with what changed, prove the scale, then name your action.

Example 1: healthcare operations

Weak: “Helped improve hospital scheduling.”

Stronger: “Reduced outpatient scheduling backlog by 18% across four clinics by mapping cancellation causes and piloting a 48-hour refill workflow.”

The stronger version shows a result, scale, and mechanism. It does not claim sole ownership of the whole hospital outcome.

Example 2: student consulting project

Weak: “Conducted market research for a startup.”

Stronger: “Prioritized two of six customer segments for a mobility startup after analyzing 420 survey responses and 18 interviews, shaping its first pilot.”

Example 3: analytical internship

Weak: “Made a dashboard for management.”

Stronger: “Cut weekly reporting time from six hours to 90 minutes by automating a 12-market performance dashboard used in the commercial review.”

Never invent a metric. When a precise number is confidential, use an honest scale marker such as “four-country team,” “€10m-plus portfolio,” or “weekly executive review.”

How should you show grades and transcripts?

Match the CV to the record you submit. Use the local grading scale as awarded. Add a short conversion only when the employer requests one or the original scale is likely to confuse the reviewer. Never silently convert a Dutch 1-10 grade into a US GPA.

If the role asks for secondary-school and university records, combine each official document into a clean, readable PDF with a clear filename. Do not crop out the scale, institution, or identifying header. If a portal asks for separate files, follow that structure instead.

Academic evidence matters, but it is one part of the screen. Roland Berger's current Amsterdam page says strong grades are a plus and also names personality and extracurricular activity. Use the CV to show the full evidence set rather than making the education block consume half the page.

Do you need a cover letter?

Send one when the firm or role asks for it. Current Strategy& and Roland Berger Amsterdam pages do. Do not attach a generic letter “just in case” when the portal does not request one.

A Netherlands consulting cover letter should answer three questions:

  1. Why this office and firm?
  2. Which two pieces of evidence prove fit for the role?
  3. Why does the work make sense as your next step?

For Roland Berger, connect your evidence to the Amsterdam office and the role, not only the global brand. For Strategy&, show why strategy through execution fits your experience. For Gupta, explain the healthcare-strategy motivation without claiming prior healthcare knowledge is required.

Use the consulting cover letter guide for the evidence structure and the Why consulting guide to remove generic motivation. The letter should explain fit. It should not repeat every CV bullet.

Should you put a photo on a Dutch consulting CV?

Do not treat a photo as a Netherlands rule. Generic Dutch CV sites disagree, and current consulting career pages focus on evidence, grades, experience, personality, and language. Follow the employer's instructions. If the role does not request a photo, use the space for stronger proof and a cleaner scan.

The same rule applies to date of birth, marital status, nationality, and a long personal profile. Include information only when it is required or materially helps the application. A simple professional header is safer than copying a broad “Dutch CV” template that was not designed for strategy consulting.

How should you tailor the CV by firm?

Tailoring means choosing the most relevant true evidence. It does not mean pasting firm vocabulary into every bullet.

TargetEvidence to bring forwardKeep the claim honest
Roland Berger AmsterdamAcademic results, analytical work, extracurricular ownership, Dutch and EnglishDo not infer an industry focus from a global page when the vacancy differs
Strategy& AmsterdamAnalytical record, leadership, transformation or implementation evidenceSubmit the current three-part document pack
Gupta StrategistsFast learning, teamwork, analytical judgement, healthcare motivation if genuineHealthcare knowledge is not required for the case
MBB AmsterdamHigh-impact ownership, leadership, problem solving, language fitUse each live office role as the source for requirements

See which bullets survive a consulting screen

The resume grader flags weak impact, missing evidence, vague quantification, and scanability problems before you submit.

How should you self-score the final draft?

Give each section a simple recruiter check before upload:

AreaPass condition
EducationDegree, institution, date, and grade are clear and match the transcript
ExperienceEach important bullet shows action and a result or scale
LeadershipAt least one line proves ownership beyond assigned tasks
LanguagesDutch and English levels match the vacancy and are interview-defensible
RelevanceThe top half supports the target role, not a generic career story
ScanabilityOne column, consistent dates, readable text, and no decorative rating bars

The consulting resume grader can find vague impact and formatting issues. Treat its feedback as a diagnostic. You still own the truth of every result, grade, and language claim.

Final Netherlands consulting CV checklist

Execution checklist

  • Match the vacancy language. Use Dutch or English as instructed and state both language levels honestly

  • Build the exact document pack. Check for a cover letter, university transcript, secondary-school record, or other role-specific file

  • Lead every bullet with impact. Use Outcome + Measure + Mechanism and remove unsupported claims

  • Check the PDF. Confirm readable text, consistent dates, working links, clean filenames, and no hidden second page

  • Run a consulting review. Use the grader to find the highest-priority content and formatting fixes before submission

Your final check is against the live role, not this article. Firm rules change. Save the vacancy, recruiter message, and submitted files together, then move from application work to the interview practice that the role actually uses.
