A Deloitte resume has one job before it has any other: to make a human reviewer certain, within a few seconds, which Deloitte business you belong in and what you have personally owned. Deloitte's US careers site lists eight consultative offerings, from AI and Engineering to Human Capital to Strategy and Transactions, and each one rewards different evidence. Deloitte's own recruiting guidance is unusually specific about the rest: keep it to one page, use bullet points instead of paragraphs, lead with action verbs, quantify results, and include a GPA when it is over 3.2. The application system also reformats a pasted resume into plain text, so the less decorative formatting you carry, the better the document survives the portal. Across the global network in FY2025, Deloitte recorded 7.71 million applications against 97,390 new hires, which is roughly 1.3 percent, spread across every business, level, and country.

That last number is scale context, not a consulting acceptance rate, and it explains the reading behaviour rather than the odds. A reviewer working through a campus pile is looking for reasons to keep a document, not reasons to reject it. Your job is to put the strongest keep-signal in the top third of the page and to make every claim below it something you can defend out loud.

What does a Deloitte resume screener actually scan for?

A first-pass reviewer is checking four things in sequence: whether the profile matches the role family, whether the academic or professional record clears the bar, whether your bullets describe outcomes rather than duties, and whether the document is clean enough to read quickly. Deloitte's recruiting tips name the content signals directly: quantified accomplishments such as surpassing a sales goal by 25 percent year over year or designing a process that produced a 20 percent cost saving, action verbs, awards and performance recognitions, and relevant internships and leadership positions for campus hires.

What the reviewer checksStrong signalWeak signalWhere it lives on the page
Role and offering fitProjects, tools, and clients that map to one named offeringA generic "business analyst" profile that could go anywhereTop third, in the first role or the education line
Academic recordDegree, institution, GPA when above 3.2, relevant courseworkAn omitted GPA next to no other academic evidenceEducation section
Ownership"Led", "built", "negotiated", "rebuilt", with the decision named"Supported", "assisted with", "was involved in"First bullet of each role
Quantified impactA number you can source, with the baseline it moved from"Improved efficiency" with no unit and no periodSecond half of each bullet
LegibilityOne page, plain bullets, consistent dates and tenseColumns, icons, graphics, and two fontsThe whole document

Every one of those checks is a reading test, not a scoring formula. Deloitte publishes no resume rubric, and any article that hands you one has invented it. What Deloitte does publish is the reading behaviour, and the reading behaviour is enough to write against.

Which Deloitte business are you actually applying to?

This is the step most applicants skip, and it costs them the screen. Deloitte US lists its consultative offerings as AI and Engineering, Customer, Cyber, Enterprise Performance, Finance Transformation, Human Capital, Risk Regulatory and Forensic, and Strategy and Transactions. Strategy work also runs under the Monitor Deloitte brand, which recruits and interviews on a distinct strategy-case track covered in the Monitor Deloitte case interview guide.

You do not need a headline that announces the offering. You need the first role and the top two bullets to be unmistakably about that kind of work. If your strongest supply chain result sits in the fourth bullet of your second role, a reviewer screening for Enterprise Performance will never reach it.

Campus hire or experienced hire: what changes?

Deloitte runs two different reading patterns, and the resume should be built for one of them rather than splitting the difference.

Campus and early career. Deloitte's guidance is explicit: highlight relevant internships and leadership positions held while in school, include volunteer work and community involvement, include the GPA when it is over 3.2, and keep it to one page. Education leads. The reviewer is inferring capability from proxies, because you have not had a client yet, so the proxies have to be strong and specific. A club presidency with a membership number and a measured change beats three unquantified officer roles. If you are coming through an internship pipeline, the Deloitte Discovery internship guide covers how that route feeds the full-time process.

Experienced hire. Experience leads, education drops to a compact block near the bottom, and the reviewer is reading for progression, scope, and client-facing ownership. Deloitte's experienced-hire recruiting specialist puts the bar plainly: be prepared to speak to anything on the resume credited to you as the leader, in detail. That sentence should govern your editing. Every line that would collapse under two follow-up questions is a liability, not an asset.

How should the header and formatting survive the portal?

Deloitte's careers site states that resumes pasted into the online system are reformatted into plain text, and that the less formatting you have, the better it will appear. That single line should end the debate about design-led consulting resumes.

  • Header: name, city and state, one phone number, one professional email address, and a LinkedIn URL. Nothing else earns the space.
  • Body: bullet points rather than paragraphs, one standard serif or sans-serif font, consistent margins, and a single date format used everywhere.
  • Avoid: columns, tables, text boxes, icons, headshots, skill bars, and colour blocks. They read as noise on the page and can scramble in plain text.
  • Tense: past tense for finished work, present tense for a current role, applied consistently within each block.
  • File: submit whatever the posting asks for, and keep a clean PDF and a plain-text version ready so you are never reformatting under a deadline.

If you are starting from a blank page rather than editing, take the structure from the free consulting resume template and fill it with your own evidence. Formatting mechanics for the base document live in the consulting resume guide; this page owns the Deloitte-specific selection and ordering job.

What belongs in the education section?

For campus applicants this section carries most of the weight, so it should be dense rather than decorative.

  • Degree, institution, location, and expected or actual graduation date. Reverse chronological if you have more than one.
  • GPA when it is above 3.2, per Deloitte's own recruiting guidance. Include the scale. If your major GPA is materially stronger than your cumulative GPA and both are defensible, show both and label them.
  • Test scores only where the market and the posting make them relevant, and only when they help.
  • Relevant coursework, capped at four or five items that map to the offering you are targeting. Advanced statistics and operations research belong on an Enterprise Performance application. Introductory microeconomics belongs nowhere.
  • Scholarships, honours, and merit awards, which are the cheapest credible achievement signal on the page.
  • Study abroad and languages, which are genuinely useful in a global network and are frequently omitted.

Experienced hires compress all of this into two lines. The degree and the institution are the only parts a reviewer needs after your first few client engagements.

How do you write a Deloitte bullet that survives follow-up?

Deloitte asks for action verbs and quantified accomplishments, and its recruiters expect you to speak to any of it in detail. Those two requirements together define the shape of a good bullet: verb, scope, method, result, and a number you can source.

  1. Verb: the thing you personally did. Led, rebuilt, negotiated, modelled, migrated, diagnosed. Not supported, assisted, participated, helped.
  2. Scope: who or what it covered. A team of six, four distribution centres, a 40,000-line SKU file, three regional business units.
  3. Method: the move that made the difference, in five or six words. This is the part almost everyone drops, and it is the part that makes the bullet interview-ready.
  4. Result: the observable change, with its unit and its period. If no metric is verifiable, use a real observable outcome: adopted by the sponsor, rolled out to the other two regions, reused by the team the following quarter.
  5. Defensibility: ask what document, calculation, or stakeholder would back the line if a partner probed it. If nothing would, narrow the claim until something does.

The defensibility test is the one that separates a Deloitte resume from a generic one, because it is enforced later in the process. An inflated number that reads well on the page becomes a bad thirty seconds in the behavioural round.

Five before-and-after bullet rewrites

These are Road to Offer's own generic examples, written to show the writing move. Replace every detail with your own approved evidence.

Weak bulletRewritten bulletWhat changedOffering it serves
Supported supply chain improvement project.Rebuilt the reorder-point model across four distribution centres, cutting stockouts from 11 percent to 4 percent over two quarters.Named the action, the scope, and a before-and-after numberEnterprise Performance
Helped with a client presentation.Synthesised nine stakeholder interviews into a three-slide recommendation that the sponsor took to the steering committee.Turned participation into an owned output with an audienceMonitor Deloitte
Worked on employee engagement initiatives.Designed and ran a manager feedback cycle for 120 staff, lifting the engagement score 14 points year over year.Added population, mechanism, and a measured movementHuman Capital
Responsible for data analysis and reporting.Automated a weekly margin report in SQL, removing about six hours of manual work per analyst per week.Replaced a duty statement with a shipped artefact and a time savingAI and Engineering
Assisted with financial due diligence.Modelled three acquisition scenarios for a mid-market target, flagging a working-capital gap that reset the offer price.Named the analysis and the decision it changedStrategy and Transactions

Notice that none of these contain a Deloitte-specific phrase. The firm-specific step is choosing which of your real results to put first, not writing in a house style. Polishing an irrelevant fact does not make it relevant.

How do leadership, service, and interests earn their space?

Deloitte explicitly invites volunteer work and community involvement on campus resumes, which is not universal advice across consulting. Treat it as a real section rather than filler, and hold it to the same evidence bar as your experience block.

  • Leadership: a role plus a decision plus a result. "Vice President, Consulting Club" is a title. "Rebuilt the case-prep programme for 60 members and raised placement into interview rounds" is evidence.
  • Service: sustained involvement beats a single event. One multi-year commitment with a measurable contribution outperforms five one-day activities.
  • Interests: two lines at the bottom, specific rather than generic. "Distance running, Portuguese, competitive chess" gives an interviewer somewhere to start. "Reading, travel, music" gives them nothing and costs you a line.
  • Languages and certifications: list them plainly with a proficiency level you would be comfortable being tested on.

Do keywords beat the applicant tracking system at Deloitte?

Mostly no, and the honest version of this matters because there is a whole genre of advice built on the opposite claim.

Deloitte's own instruction is about plain-text legibility, not keyword matching: paste the resume in, expect it to be reformatted, and carry less formatting so it survives. Deloitte also advises customising the resume against the job description with relevant keywords, which is a real instruction and a modest one. It means using the vocabulary the posting uses for the work you have actually done, so a reviewer scanning for "supply chain planning" is not forced to translate your phrasing.

What it does not mean is padding a skills section with terms lifted from a keyword list. At Deloitte Consulting and at the strategy end in particular, a person reads the document, and a skills block that has become a keyword bank is a visible tell. If you want the useful half of this, the consulting action-word guide covers verb selection, which is a writing improvement rather than an algorithm exploit. Case-interview vocabulary such as MECE, issue tree, or profitability framework is not a screening keyword at all, and putting it on a resume reads as prep-speak rather than experience.

What are the Deloitte-specific resume mistakes?

MistakeWhy it costs youThe fix
One resume sent to every Deloitte offeringEight offerings read for different proof, so a neutral document is a weak match everywhereReorder the top third per application, keeping the same facts
Design-led formattingThe portal reformats to plain text, and columns and icons degrade badlySingle column, standard font, plain bullets
Numbers you cannot sourceRecruiters expect you to speak to anything credited to you, in detailNarrow the claim until a document or a calculation supports it
Two pages as a campus applicantDeloitte's guidance says one page for campus hiresCut the oldest role and the duty lines, not the achievements
GPA hidden with nothing in its placeAn empty academic block reads as an omissionInclude it when above 3.2, otherwise add coursework, honours, or a research result
Treating Monitor Deloitte and the wider practice as one applicationThe strategy track interviews differently and reads for different evidenceDecide the target first, then prepare with the Deloitte case interview guide
Acronym-heavy internal jargonAn unfamiliar reviewer cannot evaluate what they cannot parseSpell out the first use and describe the business effect

How does the resume connect to the rest of the Deloitte process?

The resume is one document in a sequence, and the sequence is what makes the tailoring decisions obvious.

Read your finished resume as the interviewer will: pick the first bullet in each section and ask yourself the two follow-up questions a partner would ask. If either answer is thin, the line is wrong, not the interviewer.

Before you submit the Deloitte application

  • Name the offering you are targeting before you edit anything. Enterprise Performance and Human Capital reward different top-third evidence, and a neutral document loses to both

  • Confirm the current posting's length, format, and document requirements. The role description and portal control; Deloitte's campus guidance of one page is the default, not a rule for every market

  • Move your strongest offering-relevant result into the first role's first bullet. A reviewer scanning a campus pile may never reach your second role

  • Rewrite every bullet to verb, scope, method, result. Deloitte asks for action verbs and quantified accomplishments, and the method clause is what makes the line interview-ready

  • Source every number against a document, model, or stakeholder. Deloitte recruiters expect you to speak in detail to anything credited to you

  • Include the GPA if it is above 3.2, otherwise strengthen the academic block another way. Deloitte's own recruiting tips set that threshold explicitly

  • Strip columns, icons, and graphics, then read the plain-text version. The application system reformats pasted resumes, and less formatting survives better

  • Grade the final draft independently before you submit. One structured read with the consulting resume grader is cheaper than a rejection you cannot diagnose

  • Align the cover letter so it adds motivation rather than repeating bullets. The pair is read together, and a letter that restates the resume wastes the only place fit can be argued

  • Rehearse the follow-up questions behind your top three bullets out loud. The behavioural round is sourced from the resume you just submitted
