Deloitte Behavioral Interview Questions and Answers (2026)
Deloitte does not publish an official list of behavioral interview questions, but its careers pages tell you what the round is for: it checks how you work with a team, resolve conflicts and reach goals, and it uses your answers to judge achievement, communication, leadership and teaming. This guide collects the Deloitte-published sample questions, groups practice prompts by what Deloitte says it values, shows three example answers, and flags what no public source confirms. If you are interviewing for Deloitte's strategy practice, read the Monitor Deloitte behavioral guide as well, because that fit round is built around a different test.

What does Deloitte say about its behavioral interview?
Deloitte says the behavioral interview tests how you work with a team, resolve conflicts and achieve goals, and that interviewers evaluate your track record of achievement, communication, leadership and teaming abilities and your aptitude for the role. That comes from Deloitte's own US behavioral interview tips page, which also gives specific advice you can act on:
- Refer to the experiences and periods on your resume, so your stories match what the interviewer has in front of them.
- Use concrete examples, and structure each answer with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result).
- Focus on positive outcomes and lessons learned, even when the situation was difficult.
- Treat it as a two-way conversation and ask questions about culture, values and the team.
A second Deloitte US page on interview preparation adds two points worth building into your bank. Stories do not have to come from full-time jobs related to the role, since part-time jobs, school projects and volunteer roles count as transferable experience. And it warns against making stories up, because interviewers can tell the difference when they ask follow-up questions. The same page recommends mock interviews and a short "tell me about yourself" pitch, which our tell me about yourself guide walks through.
Which behavioral questions does Deloitte publish?
Deloitte publishes four sample behavioral questions and two further examples, each paired with what the recruiter is trying to learn. This is the closest thing to an official question list.
Those six prompts are the verified core. Anything beyond them in this article is a practice prompt we wrote, not a reported Deloitte question. We could not retrieve candidate-report threads from Glassdoor or Reddit to check for November 2026, so treat any list claiming to be "the" Deloitte questions with caution, including this one.
What values does Deloitte want your stories to show?
Deloitte's global Shared Values are Lead the way, Foster inclusion, Serve with integrity, Take care of each other, and Collaborate for measurable impact. Deloitte describes them as the principles that set the expectations people have for one another. These are Deloitte Global's values.
Deloitte does not say interviewers score you against these five values, and we found no source that does. Use them as a prompt for choosing stories, not as a rubric. A bank that covers each one gives you range:
- Lead the way: a time you took initiative or improved how something was done.
- Foster inclusion: a time you brought in a quieter voice or worked across very different people.
- Serve with integrity: a time you flagged an error or held a standard when it was inconvenient.
- Take care of each other: a time you supported a teammate through a hard stretch.
- Collaborate for measurable impact: a time you worked across groups to reach a result you can measure.
What practice prompts should you prepare?
Prepare around ten stories and map each one to a theme, because one story can answer several different questions. These practice prompts group the themes above. They are written by us to cover Deloitte's published sample questions and values, not reported by candidates.
Pair this bank with the consulting behavioral interview guide, the case interview fit questions list and the STAR method guide.
How should the answers sound? Three example STAR answers
A strong Deloitte answer is specific, owns the action in the first person, and ends on a result plus one lesson. The three scenarios below are original examples we wrote to show the shape. They are not reported Deloitte answers.
Example 1: a conflict with a team member
Prompt: Tell me about a conflict you had with a team member.
"In my second year I led the analysis section of a four-person project for a campus finance club. One teammate kept delivering his part a day late, which pushed my review into the night before each deadline. My task was to get the section out on time without damaging the team. After the second late handoff I asked him for ten minutes and described the effect on the schedule rather than on him. He told me he was working two shifts and had not wanted to say so. We moved his deliverable up a day, split the data cleaning so his piece was smaller, and agreed a checkpoint midweek. The next three deadlines were met, and we submitted a day early on the last one. I learned to ask what is getting in the way before I decide someone is careless."
Why it works: the conflict is concrete, the speaker names a direct conversation, the diagnosis comes before the fix, and the result is checkable. It maps to Collaborate for measurable impact and Take care of each other.
Example 2: a rush project with missing information
Prompt: Describe a time you had to deliver without all the information you needed.
"During a summer internship at a logistics firm, my manager asked on a Tuesday for a view on whether a regional route change would cut delivery costs, due Thursday morning. The fuel cost data for one region would not arrive until after that. I listed what I knew, used the prior year's average for the missing figure, and wrote that assumption at the top of the one-page summary with a range for what it could do to the answer. I also asked the finance contact to send the real figure as soon as it landed. It arrived Thursday afternoon and moved the estimate by about two percent, which did not change the recommendation. My manager used the summary in the meeting and asked me to build the same assumption box into future requests."
Why it works: it shows how the person handled ambiguity, not just that they survived it. The assumption was visible and the follow-up closed the loop. The numbers are invented for illustration; use your own real figures.
Example 3: an error you caught
Prompt: Tell me about a time you noticed a mistake.
"I was cleaning survey data for a university research project when I noticed two columns had been merged in an earlier export, which inflated one satisfaction score. My supervisor had already shared a draft chart with the department. I rebuilt the merge from the raw file to confirm, wrote up the difference in a short note, and told her the same day instead of waiting for the next meeting. She sent a corrected chart that evening. I then added a row-count check to our cleaning script so a merge like that would fail loudly. I would rather raise a mistake early and awkwardly than let a wrong number spread."
Why it works: the cost of speaking up is real, the person fixed the cause as well as the symptom, and it maps to Serve with integrity.
What changes by country, business line and level?
Deloitte says its process varies, so confirm yours from your invitation instead of assuming one script. Here is what the sources do and do not support.
There is no public Deloitte statement that audit candidates get different behavioral questions from consulting candidates. What differs, per the UK page, is the surrounding content: a technical or case component may sit next to the behavioural questions depending on the role. For the screens around the interview, see the Deloitte HireVue guide, the immersive online assessment guide, the assessment test guide and the Deloitte case interview guide. The Deloitte resume guide matters too, since Deloitte tells you to keep your stories consistent with your resume.
What mistakes cost candidates in a Deloitte behavioral round?
The common failures are unprepared stories, vague actions and invented detail. Each follows from Deloitte's own guidance:
- Telling a story that does not match your resume. Deloitte asks you to refer to the experiences and periods you listed.
- Describing the team instead of yourself. "We decided" hides what you did. Say "I" for your actions.
- Skipping the result. STAR ends on a result, with numbers where you have them.
- Making a story up. Deloitte says interviewers can tell, particularly in follow-ups.
- Ending on the problem. Deloitte asks for lessons learned and a positive tone about difficult situations. The failure question guide shows how.
- Having no questions. Deloitte describes the interview as two-way, so bring questions from our questions to ask the interviewer list.
How should you prepare this week?
- Build the bank from the table above and write each story as a few STAR bullets, not a script.
- Check each against your resume so dates and roles match.
- Add a 60-second introduction, then a motivation answer using the why consulting answer guide.
- Say every story out loud, and time it under about two minutes.
- Run a mock with follow-ups such as "what exactly did you say?" Strong stories survive a second question.
If you are weighing other Big Four fit rounds, compare the KPMG, PwC and EY guides. For stories about leading, see the leadership story examples. For the practice itself, run a Deloitte behavioral mock and read what your answers actually sound like.
