Road to Offer behavioral practice puts your own stories into a live interview instead of leaving them as notes in a question bank. The interviewer asks the questions, McKinsey PEI mode probes your answers, and the debrief scores what you actually said.

What does the Road to Offer behavioral practice tool do?

As of July 19, 2026, the tool runs a live AI interview and returns an overall result plus question-level feedback on a 100-point scale. It asks the selected questions, accepts spoken or written answers, uses follow-up probes in McKinsey PEI mode, and opens a coached debrief after the session.

The debrief shows an overall score, category scores, a question-by-question breakdown, coaching, and a stronger rewrite you can save to your story bank. A scoring failure doesn't silently become a real grade: the product withholds estimated scores when the AI grader is unavailable.

What does the debrief score?

Generic interviews score STAR structure, specificity and ownership, impact and quantification, reflection and growth, and communication. McKinsey PEI uses Connection, Drive, Leadership, Growth, Story Depth, and Communication.

Which behavioral interview variants can you choose?

Generic practice can target McKinsey alternatives including BCG, Bain, Deloitte, Kearney, Oliver Wyman, Strategy&, Accenture, EY-Parthenon, L.E.K., and other firms in the setup. It can also focus on one category such as leadership, teamwork, adaptability, failure and learning, or persuasion.

What makes PEI different?

PEI uses fewer stories and goes deeper into decisions, actions, and reflection. The product labels the current McKinsey dimensions as Connection, Drive, Leadership, and Growth, then adds Story Depth and Communication to the scorecard.

How long are the generic and PEI sessions?

As of July 19, 2026, the setup contains 5 length presets across the 2 variants. Generic practice has short and standard sessions; PEI adds a deep-dive option built around one story.

Live voice is the default format, and written answers are also available in advanced settings. Pick short when you are testing a new story bank, standard for a fuller fit round, and deep PEI when one important story needs to survive repeated probing.

Which length should you choose first?

Start with short generic practice if you haven't spoken the stories aloud. Use standard once the bank is stable. Save deep PEI for a story you expect to carry into a McKinsey round.

How is live practice different from reading question banks?

As of July 19, 2026, deep PEI can ask 4 follow-up probes on 1 story before scoring the result. A question bank gives you prompts; the live tool tests whether your ownership, detail, judgment, and reflection remain coherent after the first answer.

Reading still matters. The difference is pressure and response. A static list can't notice that you said "we" without explaining your part, ask what you felt at a difficult decision, or reveal that a polished opening falls apart when a second detail is requested.

What should you listen for during playback?

Listen for vague group language, missing decisions, results with no measure, and reflections that sound added at the end. Those are the places where a follow-up usually exposes whether the story belongs to you.

What account and paid access does behavioral practice require?

As of July 19, 2026, the broader free tier includes 1 full AI-graded case plus free daily drills, and /behavioral requires a signed-in account. Live voice access is available through Pro, active club access, or credits; the behavioral setup checks Pro or case-credit access before starting.

The free tier isn't unlimited. If you are signed out, Road to Offer sends you to login before the dashboard route loads. If you are signed in without Pro or case credits, the setup shows the access limit instead of starting an unbillable interview.
