Deutsche Bank HireVue Interview: Format, Questions & Prep (2026)
Deutsche Bank's HireVue sits inside a three-step battery: simulations, cognitive tests, then video. The reported questions, the technical flavor, and how to prep each stage.
On this page
Deutsche Bank does not run a standalone video screen. Its HireVue sits at the end of a three-step battery: situational job simulations, cognitive tests, then recorded video. Candidates who prep only the video fail earlier. Prep the battery in order and the HireVue becomes what it is: a short motivation and awareness check with a technical flavor. Run those video reps on HireVue Practice once the first two gates feel automatic.
For the wider banking map, see the investment banking HireVue questions guide. For the rep method, use how to practice HireVue.
The battery, in order
Spring Week routes show this shape most clearly, and the simulation stage matters most there because it is many candidates' first contact with the bank. Analyst routes keep the video step with a slightly longer prep window. Technology-track applicants report an additional technical test layer with computing content, so check your invite for a fourth element before assuming the standard three.

The HireVue questions to expect
Reported prompts cluster in four lanes:
Motivation. "Why would you choose our bank?" and "What do you know about Deutsche Bank?" Name a specific business, strategy, or regional strength plus one concrete thing you have done. Generic European-banking praise fits every rival.
News article. "Detail a relevant news article" with your take. Pick one markets story, state the mechanism in two sentences, land a view. Sixty seconds maximum.
Light technicals. "What is a yield curve?" is the most-reported example. Answer in plain structure: definition in one line, what shape signals what, one current observation. No derivation needed; this tests preparation, not modeling.
Behavioral. Teamwork, motivation for the role, collaboration stories in STAR shape. Reuse the skeletons in the common HireVue questions bank, sized to the short prep window.

Spring Week versus analyst routes
The battery keeps its shape but the numbers shift by entry route:
Spring Week candidates should overweight the why-Deutsche-Bank answer and one clean news take, since three questions leave no room for a weak opener. Analyst candidates get slightly more air per answer and should spend it on the technical lane: one yield-curve style answer and one markets mechanism, each landed inside the window.
What happens after the HireVue
Clearing video leads to live interviews ending in an assessment centre or final round, depending on region and division. Expect competency interviews revisiting the same motivation themes plus technical interviews that go deeper than the HireVue technicals. The video answers become your baseline: interviewers often open live rounds from what you recorded, so keep your deal views and news takes consistent between the two stages rather than inventing fresh opinions under new pressure.
A prep plan that respects the order
- Simulations first. Run timed best-versus-worst judgment sets until decisive answers feel automatic. This gate kills more candidates than the video. A typical item gives a client-escalation scenario with four responses: the winning move names the client impact first and proposes the concrete next step, while the trap answers either stall for more information or escalate without attempting resolution. When two options both look reasonable, pick the one where you own the outcome rather than the one where you delegate it upward.
- Cognitive speed second. Short daily timed sets for a week. Do not cram the night before; speed gains come from familiarity.
- Video last. Record the four lanes above at 90 seconds each, one rerun per prompt, against a real timer. Rehearse with HireVue Practice, which publishes a Deutsche Bank-specific pack.
What gets Deutsche Bank candidates cut
- Dying at stage one. The simulations feel easy and get underestimated. They gate everything.
- Generic why-DB answers. "Leading European bank" describes three rivals. Name the business.
- News without a view. Summaries without a take fail the article prompt the same way everywhere.
- Assuming a retake exists. Analyst routes report none. Train the single take.
