Can I use a calculator?

Bain allows pen, paper and a calculator for the TestGorilla assessment. That permission does not extend to subsequent interviews. Follow any additional instructions in your invitation.

Can I go back to a TestGorilla question?

TestGorilla's candidate guidance says you cannot return to a question after moving on. A skipped question counts as incorrect. Read and check your answer before pressing Next.

What does Bain officially say?

Bain's digital-assessment guidance is the first source to read. Its central page describes approximately 30 to 40 minutes, one sitting for TestGorilla, a computer and stable connection, and Chrome as the recommended browser. It permits paper and a calculator for the assessment, while excluding calculators from later interviews. It also prohibits AI and tools that capture or transcribe assessment content.

Why duration claims differ

A regional document can describe a particular recruiting campaign without setting a worldwide format. Bain's Seoul summer AC recruiting FAQs for 2025 described approximately 52 minutes. That is a dated Seoul AC example. It does not replace the central approximation or prove what an applicant elsewhere receives.

TestGorilla's candidate instructions explain that employers select the tests and question types. Many tests begin with unscored practice questions. Those questions introduce the layout; they do not contribute to the employer's score.

During a test, moving forward leaves the current question behind. You cannot return to a skipped question, and TestGorilla says skips count as incorrect. Before pressing Next, check the requested quantity, your units and your selected option. If the instructions require a single answer, submitting several plausible answers is not a substitute for choosing the supported one.

TestGorilla's general guidance permits breaks at certain transitions between tests. Bain specifically asks candidates to complete TestGorilla in one sitting. Plan a continuous session and follow Bain's instructions rather than assuming a general platform option overrides them. A break between tests is also different from pausing a running timer.

What to practise when the exact sections are unknown

Bain describes consulting-relevant skills; it does not publish a universal TestGorilla section list for every role and office. The provider offers many tests, but its catalogue is not evidence that Bain assigns all of them. Preparation can still target reasoning habits that transfer across questions.

Check the denominator before calculating

Suppose an original teaching table says an order costs $160 before tax and the tax rate is 7.5%. Tax is $160 × 0.075 = $12, so the total is $172. Dividing $160 by 1.075 would answer a different question: recovering the pre-tax amount from a tax-inclusive total. The same two numbers can produce different valid calculations; the wording decides which one is relevant.

If this was your error, use the case math explanation to rehearse the calculation before adding time pressure. This example is separate from the scored starter and demonstrates one method only.

Turn a chart into a sentence

Before touching a calculator, state the question in words: “What share of the named subgroup comes from this row?” Then identify that subgroup's total. “Premium customers from delivery” and “delivery customers who are premium” reverse the denominator. Test a conclusion with a counterexample

If all completed projects have an approval, that does not mean every approved project is complete. An approved project still in progress would satisfy the first statement and disprove the converse. Read words such as all, some, only and must literally. Do not fill a missing premise with a story about what normally happens at work.

Filter before ranking

A low-cost proposal that breaks a stated deadline is ineligible. Cross it out before comparing price. A business question may deliberately place an attractive number beside a disqualifying condition. The answer should satisfy the complete task, not win one column.

This sequence gives you an error log, not a predicted hiring outcome. Do not convert a small practice score into a pass mark. We do not know Bain's weighting, decision threshold or comparison cohort for your application.
