PwC SHL Aptitude: Invitation-First Math and Logic Practice

Prepare when a PwC invitation names SHL aptitude, with a path router, an original quantitative item, and a checklist for changing test facts.

Prepare for PwC SHL aptitude only when the current invitation identifies an SHL path. PwC assessment routes can vary by role, country, experience level, and recruiting cycle, so a prep page cannot safely assign every candidate the same vendor or format. Copy the assessment name from the invitation, inspect the example item and permitted materials, and practice the skill actually requested. If the path says Career Unlocked, use that sibling guide. If it says SHL numerical or logical reasoning, train setup, units, accuracy, and pacing without assuming an unverified section count or cutoff.

Is the PwC assessment SHL, Career Unlocked, or another path?

The invitation is the routing source. Do not use a familiar interface, a forum report, or another candidate's experience as proof that your path is identical.

If the invitation is unclear, use the PwC assessment overview to identify the route, or ask the recruiting contact. If it names the sibling path, use the PwC Career Unlocked guide.

What does a PwC SHL aptitude assessment measure?

The current scoring model is not verified here. Aptitude practice generally reveals whether you can select relevant information, represent the relationship correctly, calculate or infer accurately, and manage the stated constraint. Train those observable actions rather than guessing a proprietary score formula.

For a quantitative item, the evidence is a correct relationship, preserved units, controlled arithmetic, and a plausible result. For a logical item, the evidence is a conclusion supported by the given rules without importing outside assumptions. For either, a fast unsupported guess is not the same as a deliberate skip based on the current navigation rules.

What sections and item styles should I expect?

Expect the sections named in your invitation. The following table is a preparation router, not a claim that every path includes each family.

How do SHL aptitude tasks differ from game-based assessment tasks?

An aptitude item supplies information and asks for an answer that follows from it. A game-based task may ask the candidate to interact with a mechanic and can require a different preparation approach. The presence of graphics alone does not identify the path.

Wrong-path example: A candidate sees colored shapes in an aptitude sample and spends time practicing reaction speed. The actual instruction asks which shape must follow from three written constraints. The relevant skill is rule-based elimination, not motor speed. Read the action verb and scoring instructions before classifying the task.

How should I prepare for PwC SHL aptitude under time pressure?

Choose the sequence based on your current accuracy, not on the existence of a timer.

  1. If accuracy is unstable, start accuracy-first. Solve without a timer, write the setup, and log the error type.
  2. If accuracy is stable but completion is slow, compress the setup. Keep the relationship and units, remove redundant notes, and time one item family at a time.
  3. If both are stable, practice the stated constraint. Use only the navigation, calculator, and review rules confirmed in your instructions.
  4. If the format is unknown, do not simulate it. Practice transferable numerical and logical reps until the official example clarifies the path.

What is a complete worked quantitative item?

Illustrative prompt: A team processed 1,200 applications in Quarter 1. In Quarter 2, volume rose by 15%, while the share requiring manual review fell from 30% to 25%. How many fewer or more applications required manual review in Quarter 2?

Setup. Quarter 2 volume is 1,200 × 1.15 = 1,380. Manual-review counts must be calculated from each quarter's own volume.

Units. Applications, not percentage points.

Calculation. Quarter 1 manual review is 1,200 × 30% = 360. Quarter 2 manual review is 1,380 × 25% = 345. The difference is 345 − 360 = -15.

Answer. Fifteen fewer applications required manual review in Quarter 2.

Deliberate shortcut. Calculate only the two manual-review counts. Do not separately calculate automatic-review counts because the question does not ask for them.

Time decision. If your setup is not clear, spend the next few seconds writing volume × review share rather than multiplying the 5 percentage-point decline by the wrong base.

Sanity check. Total volume rose, but the review share fell enough for the count to decline slightly. A result of 60 fewer, based on 1,200 × 5%, would ignore the higher Quarter 2 base.

Make the setup visible

Solve one quantitative rep with units, a deliberate shortcut, and a scale check.

Compare this path with Career Unlocked if that is the label in your invitation.

Which facts should I verify from my invitation?

Record the role, country, experience level, provider, section name, item style, timing, navigation, calculator policy, scoring information supplied to candidates, and official support contact. Date the note. A fact copied from a different application is not confirmation for yours.

Do not search for a universal pass rate or cutoff and treat it as a decision rule. Without current primary support and the relevant scope, such a number can change pacing in the wrong direction.

What is a safe first rep if I have not seen the item style before?

Start with a single quantitative comparison like the worked item above. Use no timer on the first attempt. Then repeat the same relationship with different numbers under a short self-imposed constraint. The goal is to preserve setup and units as speed increases. Once the official example is available, switch to its item style and stated rules.

Review with four labels:

  • Reading: Did I answer the question asked?
  • Setup: Did I choose the correct relationship and base?
  • Execution: Did I calculate or infer accurately?
  • Check: Did I test units and scale?

The next rep should target the first failed label, not restart a broad assessment set.
