Road to Offer free consulting interview lessons preview

What is the consulting interview lessons course?

The consulting interview lessons course is a free, sequenced lesson series that takes a complete beginner from "what is a case interview?" to "I am ready to start partner practice." It includes 12 video and PDF lessons covering mechanics, the five core frameworks, case math, communication, behavioral interviews, and firm-specific tailoring for McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. Designed to be completed in 2-3 weeks at roughly an hour a day, with worksheets after each lesson so the time is active.

Who is this lesson series built for?

Three candidate profiles, all in roughly the same place in the journey:

Candidates in their first month of recruiting

Across candidate sessions on Road to Offer, the most common "where do I start?" moment for newcomers happens around their fourth week of recruiting prep. By then they have read 30 articles, downloaded 4 casebooks, and realized they have no system. This course is the system.

Career changers and industry hires

If you are not coming from a target school where the consulting club hands you a curriculum, you need one. The lessons assume zero prior exposure to consulting and explicitly cover the lateral-hire angle - see also the case interview prep for career changers guide.

Undergrads with limited time

If you are juggling a full course load and need a tight sequence rather than 100 hours of YouTube, this course gives you the spine. Pair it with the case interview for beginners starter guide for the orientation reading.

How is the course structured?

12 lessons, organized into four phases. Each phase builds on the prior one - skipping ahead almost always backfires.

Phase 1 - Foundations (lessons 1-3)

Mechanics of a case interview, what interviewers actually score, and the 5 core frameworks introduced one at a time. By the end of phase 1 you can read a prompt and recognize which framework family it belongs to. The case interview frameworks complete guide is the article-form companion.

Phase 2 - Core skills (lessons 4-7)

Case math, market sizing, hypothesis-driven structure, and synthesis. This is the longest phase because these are the skills MBB interviewers cut on. Use mental math case interviews drills and the case interview math practice tool alongside lesson 4 - the two stack cleanly.

Phase 3 - Communication and fit (lessons 8-10)

Communication tics, body language, behavioral interviews, and the personal experience interview. The case interview communication tips guide and the behavioral interview consulting guide deepen each lesson.

Phase 4 - Firm tailoring (lessons 11-12)

Firm-specific signals for McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. Pair each lesson with the corresponding deep-dive: McKinsey case interview guide, BCG case interview guide, and Bain case interview guide.

What does a realistic 2-week schedule look like?

The course is built to be completed in 14 days at an hour a day. A typical pace:

Week 1 - Foundations and core skills

Lessons 1-7. Two days on phase 1, five days on phase 2. By end of week 1 you have read your first frameworks, run your first market sizing, and built basic math fluency. The math drills can extend into evenings - that is intentional.

Week 2 - Communication, fit, and firm tailoring

Lessons 8-12. Three days on phase 3, two days on phase 4. By end of week 2 you have a behavioral story bank, a working case structure habit, and a sense of what each MBB firm actually rewards. You are now ready for partner practice.

Week 3 (optional buffer) - Re-watch and worksheet review

Many candidates use a third week to re-watch lessons 4-7 and redo the worksheets. The math and structure phase is the one that benefits most from a second pass.

How does this course differ from a paid prep program?

Three honest differences, because nobody loves marketing language:

Coverage is intentionally narrow

This course gets you to "ready for partner practice." It does not promise an offer, run mock interviews, or grade your performance. For interactive grading, run the live AI cases on Road to Offer. For 30-50 partner reps, use the free consulting case books vault.

No personalized feedback

A paid program with a coach gives you a human reading your output. The lessons give you the curriculum and worksheets, not feedback on your specific case structure. If feedback is the unlock you need, the free AI case practice on Road to Offer is the closest free substitute.

Focused on the first 80% of the prep curve

The lesson series is for the first 4 weeks of prep, not the final stretch before final-round interviews. For final-round work, layer in the case interview cheat sheet and live mocks.
