Darden Case Book: Greatest Hits and Phased Practice
Use the verified Darden case book design as a phased practice plan with Greatest Hits cases, a math cheat sheet, and industry primers.
On this page
The Darden case book is a 2024 to 2025 UVA practice resource rated 8 out of 10 for realism in Road to Offer's editorial review in the approved casebook plan. Its value is selection discipline. The plan describes Greatest Hits cases arranged through phased difficulty, with a math cheat sheet and industry primers beside the cases. That design answers a practical candidate question: which case should come next? Start in the printed phase that matches your current level, attempt the case without leaning on the aids, and use the primer or cheat sheet only after the debrief identifies a gap. The exact edition, titles, phase labels, and worked-case figures stay withheld because the Darden PDF is absent from the current Road to Offer vault. Source: casebook universe plan, 2026-07-16.
What is the Darden case book best for?
The Darden case book is a 2024 to 2025 UVA practice resource rated 8 out of 10 for realism in Road to Offer's editorial review. Its value is curation: Greatest Hits cases arranged by difficulty, supported by a math cheat sheet and industry primers. Verify the exact edition before practice. Run Darden-style case math from the Road to Offer drill engine: a real prompt, your answer, and AI-scored feedback. Free account includes 3 drills per day for the first 3 days.
The edition range itself needs final PDF confirmation. This page preserves the range supplied by the plan rather than choosing a year. The same boundary applies to phase names and case order.
Where to get the current Darden casebook
Road to Offer does not host the Darden PDF, but UVA does. The University of Virginia's Department of Economics posts the Darden Case Book, 2018-2019 edition publicly on its professional development resources page. That file is free to download and carries no redistribution restriction. Newer editions are a different matter: the 2020-2021 edition is marked "Not for External Distribution" and is circulated by the Darden Consulting Club to members, so treat any newer copy you find on a document-sharing site as unauthorized.
How does Phase to proof prevent passive practice?
Use Phase to proof as the operating method.
- Choose the current phase. Start from the printed progression once the source is available.
- Name the proof. Decide which behavior would show readiness to advance, such as clean percentage math or a prioritized structure.
- Run the case cold. Keep the cheat sheet and industry primer closed during the first attempt.
- Inspect the miss. Use the relevant aid only where the debrief shows a gap.
- Repeat the decision step. Redo the equation, insight, or recommendation from a blank page.
- Advance on transfer. Move phases after the correction appears in a different context.
The book's curation reduces navigation work. It does not remove the candidate's responsibility to identify why a case felt hard.
Why are the Greatest Hits titles absent here?
The brief requires a complete PDF-derived list with title, one-line situation, phase, industry, math cue, and page. No Darden asset exists under frontend/private/free-resources, and the session has no network. Every title, count, phase name, and source calculation is therefore unverified.
A mirror list would fail the candidate job because it would hide edition uncertainty and give no proof that a named case belongs to the requested book. This page instead provides the verified design and a usable practice method. Once the source is acquired, the missing inventory should be added from the PDF itself, followed by a named Greatest Hits mini-case using its own figures.

How should you combine the industry primer with the case?
Read the prompt first. Write an initial hypothesis based only on the client decision. Then scan the relevant primer and ask which two facts could actually change that hypothesis.
For example, an industry primer may explain that a sector carries high fixed costs. That fact matters only if the case decision depends on utilization, scale, or breakeven. It should lead to a question such as “How much unused capacity exists?” rather than a generic branch labeled “industry.”
Use this three-column note:
Delete any primer fact that produces no different question, calculation, or recommendation.
What current case can test the Darden loop?
Use HarborHealth Acquisition of MedLink Virtual Care from the Road to Offer catalog. It is a medium healthcare and digital-health acquisition case. It tests valuation, realistic synergies, and integration risk, which creates a clean setting for math plus industry context. The case comes from Road to Offer rather than Darden. Run the case cold. After the attempt, review only the industry or calculation gap that affected your decision. Then restate the recommendation with the corrected evidence and one implementation condition.

Practice Darden-style cases with an AI interviewer
Road to Offer runs Darden-style prompts as live cases: the AI plays interviewer, pushes back on your structure, and scores the recommendation at the end. Free to start.
How hard is the Darden case book?
The plan's 8 out of 10 rating describes realism, while the printed phases organize difficulty. Keep those ideas separate. A realistic case can still sit early in a curriculum, and a hard calculation does not guarantee realistic interview behavior.
Track difficulty across four dimensions:
- ambiguity in the client question;
- number of analytical transitions;
- burden of the math or exhibits;
- precision required in the recommendation.
The phase is useful when it increases one or more of these demands without overwhelming every dimension at once.
When should you advance, pause, or step back?
Darden fits candidates who want a curated route through case difficulty and who benefit from support material after a miss. It offers less verified value today to someone seeking a particular named case, since that inventory awaits the source file. The right interim move is to use an available case, preserve the phase discipline, and avoid inventing what the unavailable book contains.
